Your Morning Dump… The Carlos Delfino pipe dream is over

Olympics Day 10 - Basketball

Your Morning Dump... The Carlos Delfino pipe dream is overEvery morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

The Rockets reached agreement with Bucks free agent guard/forward Carlos Delfino, a person with knowledge of the deal said Monday.

Delfino will sign a two-year contract, with the second season at the team’s option.

Delfino averaged nine points and 3.4 rebounds in 28.5 minutes per game with the Bucks last season . A seven-year veteran, his top scoring seasons were his first two seasons in Milwaukee when Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson was an assistant on Scott Skiles’ staff.

A backup for all but six games in his first four NBA seasons with the Pistons and Raptors, he started 159 games in his three seasons with the Bucks.  Delfino, 29, is coming off a strong showing in the Olympics this month, averaging 15.2 points and 3.8 rebounds for Argentina.

Ultimate Rockets

Once the Celtics secured Courtney Lee, the need for Carlos Delfino decreased dramatically. Even with Doc Rivers voicing his approval of Delfino’s game during the Olympics, it didn’t appear the Celtics had the money nor the minutes to appease Delfino.

The dollar amount on the contract hasn’t been released, but I’d venture a guess it’s not worth more than $3 million. Could the Celtics have made a comparable offer? Possibly. But I think Danny Ainge and Doc are pleased with the roster, as is.

Not sure what role Delfino will play with the rudderless Rockets. Bloggers in Houston are already speculating on his exit.
