Your Morning Dump… Where Avery Bradley is packing on the muscle

Avery Bradley

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Two-a-day (and sometimes three-a-day) workouts this summer in addition to more weightlifting and a modified diet, has resulted in Bradley adding significant bulk to his frame.

“My body, I feel a lot stronger,” said Bradley who now weighs 196 pounds which is the most he has ever weighed. “Sometimes when I’m walking down the streets of Boston, people say, ‘Man you look a lot bigger.’ ”

Bradley, who has weighed around 180 pounds most of his career, said he hopes to go into the season weighing about 188 pounds.

Not only will the added weight allow him to be an even more physical defender than he is now, but it should also result in his body being more sturdy for the rigors of this upcoming season.

I know the feeling, Avery. People only noticing your muscularity and ignoring the brains behind the brawn. It sucks.

AB is saying and doing all the right things following his underwhelming season and disastrous playoff performance against the New York Knicks.

He’s working hard, claims he’s not distracted by the looming contract extension and says he’s willing to do whatever it takes to help the the team.

The added weight will help him defend the bigger two-guards who can post-up without sacrificing much quickness.

As for him playing point-guard in Rajon Rondo’s absence [cringes], the Celtics simply do not  have another option. Phil Pressey isn’t the answer, folks.

I’m curious to see how Bradley approaches this season. Without the Big 2 around, he’ll have more opportunities to shine offensively. But I don’t want to see him jacking up shots. That’s not his game.

Bradley is the type of player who can dominate a game defensively and be an efficient scorer on offense.
