Your Morning Dump… Where Chris Johnson began building his case

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

This is not your typical 10-day contract experience (which began last Friday for those keeping track at home), for sure.

But Johnson, who finished with 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting in Boston’s 93-86 loss, showed signs on Tuesday that he’s not your run-of-the-mill 10-day contract performer, either. He spent eight games with the Memphis Grizzlies last season, so it’s not like he’s in totally foreign land out there defending players like future Hall of Famer and former Celtic Ray Allen.

But Johnson played with the kind of composure that underscores the fact that he has a very small window of opportunity to make a lasting impression.”I just tried to come in and provide energy, just do the little things,” said Johnson who logged all but 18 seconds in the fourth quarter. And it’s those little things that mean a big deal to head coach Brad Stevens. The usually cool-as-they-come coach was unusually animated after Johnson hustled down a loose ball.”I almost dove on the floor too when he dove on that one,” Stevens said.

“It was huge. The rebound put-back was huge; just did a lot of good things. We’ve talked about this before. Those are plays you want to celebrate.”

Well, that’s a start. Chris Johnson spent over 11 minutes on the court during the fourth quarter last night. Not only is it impressive that he was capable to do that with such little preparation, but he looked good out there; great actually. After his ten-day signing, Johnson had mentioned doing the little things, a little bit of everything — a goal he certainly accomplished in last night’s loss to the Heat. The ankle injury to Avery Bradley helped Johnson showcase himself on the court, and that may be mutually beneficial to both him and the Celtics.

Since he didn’t play in his first two games after his signing, Johnson is now halfway through his ten-day contract. Fortunately, he has another chance to build his resume tonight against the Wizards, a game where he should receive more minutes with Avery Bradley likely scratched from the lineup.

Page 2, The Celtics are expected to sign Vander Blue

If the Celtics were thinking about signing Blue before the game, Avery Bradley spraining his ankle might have hastened president of basketball operations Danny Ainge’s quest for backcourt help. Bradley left during the second quarter against Miami and did not return. Stevens wasn’t sure, but believed Boston’s starting shooting guard probably will not be able to suit up Wednesday in Washington.

“It looks like he got it pretty good,” Stevens said. “He didn’t seem like he was walking great. If I had to guess personally, I’d say (he won’t play). But it would be a guess.”

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the Blue signing. Blue, 21, spent training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers but was released prior to the regular season. After spending some time in the Israeli league, he returned to the United States and joined the D-League’s Delaware 87ers. Over four games with Delaware, the guard averaged 19 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

MassLive – Vander Blue signing ten-day contract with Celtics

Vander who? The report that Ainge intended to sign Blue to a ten-day contract came out midway through the second half of last night’s game. It isn’t often that you hear of a player being signed while a game is in progress, but with Avery Bradley’s sprained ankle, the trading of Crawford and Brooks, and the dismissal of Keith Bogans — the depth at shooting guard has dried up faster than Antoine Walker’s bank account . Vander, a 6′ 4″, 200 lbs shooting guard, played college ball at Marquette. He’s got a cool name and that’s a good place to start . Here’s his higlight reel:
