“We’ve just all been on the same page,” said assistant coach Walter McCarty. “I thought we did a really good job last season coming together, getting to know each other before the season, and getting our assignments and learning how to work together. But we’ve really developed a great chemistry and learned how to work efficient. It’s been a great summer, we spent a lot of time together at summer league, and just being in the office — all just trying to make our team better. It’s been a really good summer for us.”

I’ve loved the hiring of McCarty from day one. Not only does he know the organization and city very well, but he’s also run the gamut of the NBA. He’s experienced winning, lots of losing and just about everything in between. Definitely the kind of guy you want in your locker room and on your coaching staff.

With this year’s camp, there will be less of a scramble-guys won’t be just meeting Coach Stevens for the first time nor each other for the most part. And coming off of a dismal year, it’s the little things like that which teams can build on. McCarty says that guys have been in and out of the team’s training facility in Waltham regularly, and that they’re “eager” to get things going.

“It’s been great. Guys have been in, they’ve been working hard, they’ve been eager to be in and be around,” said McCarty. “They want to learn as much as possible and work on their games and see how they fit into our system. It’s just been a good summer having these guys in. Getting your guys to come in, it’s tough in the summer. But we’ve had a lot of guys in all summer, it’s just been awesome to see.”

I am personally most excited for the guard play going into training camp. With Rajon Rondo now at 100% (you would think) and Marcus Smart drawing rave reviews for his play during Team USA’s camp/practices, should be very fun to watch. Now if we could just get through these next few weeks of NBA doldrums….
