Your Morning Dump… Where despite acquiring Brandon Jennings, Detroit may still be interested in Rondo

Milwaukee Bucks v Boston Celtics

Milwaukee Bucks v Boston Celtics

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

The Pistons’ offseason hasn’t stopped since it began, as they are reportedly agreed to a sign-and-trade deal Tuesday, acquiring restricted free agent Brandon Jennings from the Milwaukee Bucks for Brandon Knight, Khris Middleton and Slava Kravtsov.

Jennings agreed to a three-year, $24 million deal with the Pistons as part of the sign-and-trade, sources tell The Detroit News.

Jennings and the Bucks apparently reached an impasse on contract talks, as he was seeking a deal in the $12 million per season range, but settled on taking a shorter deal with the Pistons worth $8 million annually.

The Pistons had interest in Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, which signaled a lack of faith they felt in Knight developing into a legit starting point guard.

Detroit News

Unable to pry Rajon Rondo away from the Celtics, Pistons GM Joe Dumars has settled for Brandon Jennings.

However, there’s speculation that Dumars will still move on Rondo if Danny Ainge wants to trade him:

Let’s hope Ainge views Rondo as a “franchise-level PG” too and doesn’t move him.

Not that I care much about the Pistons roster, but how frightening is a Brandon Jennings – Josh Smith combination? Two guys not known for their basketball IQ and shot-selection.

Good luck with that, Detroit.

A couple of other tidbits:

You will be forced to spend time with your family on Christmas because the Celtics are not on the NBA schedule.

On this day six years ago, this minor NBA transaction took place. Ho-hum.
