Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“I like it,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers told reporters following the team’s practice on Thursday. “I’d rather have this than playing on Friday, I’ll say that.”
Boston closed out its preseason schedule with a home loss to Philadelphia on Sunday with their regular season opener against the Heat on Oct. 30.
But with so much time in between games, Rivers acknowledges one of the challenges the C’s face will be keeping themselves sharp enough to play well.
“That’s gotta be tough,” Rivers added. “To have this much time off and then play a game … that’s not an easy thing. You’d rather have some games around the corner, but we don’t.”
Not a bad little rock-the-cradle dunk by Courtney Lee (video via WEEI). That’s what happens when you’ve got a little extra time on your hands…
It’s impossible to say what the layoff will really mean. On the positive side, they’ll be able to really hone in on problem areas, work on them, and be pretty polished when Tuesday rolls around.
On the negative side, there’s a certain level of rust that accumulates simply by not facing a different opponent. The speed is different. The intensity is different. The feel is different.
We’ll just have to wait and see how it goes, and trust that Doc has the guys ready.
In the meantime, we’ve made a concerted effort this morning to keep this space a “that guy”-free zone. However, if you’re intent on hearing more from him (yes, he’s STILL talking), here he is talking to Jackie MacMullan (the rift between him and Doc is bigger than we thought, and Danny offered him a no-trade clause). So if you’re into that stuff… enjoy… there’s plenty there.
