Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“I’m going to try it a couple of games,” Rivers said of Sullinger starting, “and then I’ll throw Brandon in and I’ll throw Darko in a couple times. So you can read into it whatever you want, but there’s been no decisions made on anything now.”
When asked directly if Sullinger could open games — a rather big deal for a rookie on a team planning to contend for a championship — Rivers didn’t hesitate.
“I said that when we drafted him. But I don’t know if that’s true or not yet,” Rivers said. “I don’t really want to get into who’s starting and who’s not yet, but we’ll see. Darko, too. We can slide Kevin over to the 4 to start games the first half of the year. I don’t know if that’s a bad thing, so Kevin doesn’t have to have a wrestling match the entire season with the bigs. So there’s a lot of thoughts.”
As John pointed out yesterday, Doc may just be blowing smoke to keep the guys from resting on their heels.
But after all the drama created last year by Crybaby Ray, Doc’s also realized it’s important to restore Ubuntu.
“It’s not always going to be roses,” Rivers said. “What I try to tell them is that we’re trying to play for something as a group and everyone has a role, and we need you to buy into that. Again, some guys that are actually good guys haven’t, and some guys that haven’t been great teammates in other places have come in here and done it. I wish I knew the formula, but I don’t. I just know I don’t ask a lot, we just do it and we hope they handle it.”
As far as the line-ups go, I’m intrigued with Jared Sullinger as a starter (and in denial with Darko as a starter). This “competition” for the other starting big adds some intrigue to the preseason.
