Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big story line. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
I wish I could get a chance to play on the USA team! Looking at the history of it I’ve never seen a small guard get selected 2 even try out
— Isaiah Thomas (@Isaiah_Thomas) June 10, 2016
Isaiah Thomas is nothing if not honest.
He spent the last couple of weeks pushing hard for Kevin Durant to come to Boston and join him on the Celtics.
Now, the 5-foot-9 dynamo is making another pitch. He wants to play on Team USA in Rio.
Gotta give Isaiah credit. This is a guy who well knows that there’s a lot of stuff you don’t get unless you ask for it.
I’m not entirely sure that a spot on the Olympic Team is one of those things, but hey, for a guy that plays with a chip on his shoulder, he seems to be a pretty positive, upbeat guy most of the time when he’s off the court. Not necessarily when he’s dealing with Gary Tanguay, but I mean, come on, that guy would try the patience of Job.
Also, IT might need to buff up on his history a bit. Allen Iverson was co-captain of Team USA ’04, but well, I think just about everyone in the United States would like to forget that team ever existed, so he’s got plenty of company there.
Page 2: Where we say so long to Gordie Howe
Although Gordie Howe is best known as a member of the Detroit Red Wings, he spent four years playing for the New England Whalers during their World Hockey Association stint, albeit after they moved from Boston to Hartford.
Gordie, as you may be aware, had a somewhat lengthy career in hockey…. 23 All Star game appearances. Enjoy the intros from Gordie’s final All Star game, Wayne Gretzky’s first, and the first one at Detroit’s Joe Louis arena.
