Celtics coach Doc Rivers said he could tell that the 36-year-old Garnett hasn’t been the same since a triple-overtime victory over Denver on Feb. 10. Garnett played 47 minutes in that game.
The Celtics played in Charlotte the following night, and against Chicago two days later.
“I just think since that game, you can see he’s been tired,” Rivers said.
Garnett didn’t object when Rivers approached him about sitting out.
“He was fine with it, which told me it was the right thing,” Rivers said. “He didn’t put up a fight at all, and that tells you we were probably a game or two too late. We should have done it a game earlier.”
Globe – Garnett sits out to rest
Last night seemed like an odd time to rest KG considering he had played 5 minutes of basketball over the 5 day All-Star break. But who am I to question Doc Rivers or an elite athlete like Kevin Garnett? I just wonder if the decision was more about an injury than fatigue.
Doc says he’ll also monitor Jason Terry’s minutes. He is NOT concerned with Paul Pierce.

Aside from Jeff Green’s all-world performance, the big story from last night’s victory in Phoenix was the play of Terrence Williams. He has a great handle and superb court vision:
“T-Will played tremendous, dishing the ball out, playing the point guard, setting us up in the offense, being aggressive,” said Green who had a season-high 31 points. “That’s what we want from him. He did a good job.”
Said Williams: “I just try to find people. This is a great, great group of guys to play with. They’re able to make shots. I’m just getting them the ball. They’re doing the hard part making the shots. It’s definitely a dream to play with shooters. I’m just trying to get them the ball when they’re open.”
Williams must be real immature if he’s bounced around the league with that kind of talent. Let’s just hope he’s come to his senses.
For those who haven’t checked the standings in a bit, the Celtics are now 4.5 games behind the slumping Knicks in the Atlantic Division.
