Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Kings owner meeting with Larry Bird today means decision on hiring president is on hold. Source says asking 5M per, maybe piece of team
Bird’s name first surfaced last week in a story by ESPN’s Marc Stein that tabbed Chris Wallace as the front-runner for the Kings GM job.
Larry left the Pacers a year ago due to health issues. If he does want back in the grind, I would assume he’d return to Indiana and finish building a championship team.
I can’t imagine Larry moving west to rebuild the Kings, unless the new ownership group drops an obscene amount of money in his lap. Even then, I doubt Bird would leave the comforts of Indiana.
Speaking of legends, Julius Erving – a special consultant to the 76ers – had this to say about dealing with Danny Ainge and anyone associated with the Celtics:
“When you talk to the Lakers, when you talk to the Celtics, when you talk to – well, those two in particular – the guy on the other end of the phone has his fingers crossed,” Erving said. “So whatever he’s telling you, he’s not telling you the truth. He’s working a deal for him. And what happened to us last year with getting damaged goods hopefully will only happen once. And that’s the extent of that learning curve.”
As Frank Leone once said, “D.T.A. Don’t trust anybody.”
All this talk about Dr. J and Bird reminds me of …
