Your Morning Dump… Where Sheed is a Mentor

Sheed (2)

Every
morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here…
highlighting the big storyline.  Because there's nothing quite as
satisfying as a good morning dump.

At least one Celtics player pointed out the need for Wallace to step up to the role following their recent 1-3 road trip.

“I went to him after the Phoenix game and told him we need him to be the leader right now,” Kendrick Perkins said yesterday. “Obviously he can do it. He showed it the last game. We
just need him to do it every game – talking, getting guys under control
when things are going bad for us. You have J.R. stepping in and Tony
trying to run the point, and we just have to stick together.”

“I try to get them to play their regular game and not be nervous,”
Wallace said. “The other night, J.R. might have been nervous, but he
settled down and played some good defense. He wasn’t looking for his
shot, and we were trying to get him looking for his shot and take it to
the basket more, the same way he does in practice and in one-on-ones.
But the young guys are stepping up to the plate.

“It’s less talk without Kevin out there, but we’re just trying to
teach the young guys that on defense, when you talk, it’s like (an
extra) step or two. It’s playing good ‘D’ and listening.”

Herald – Rasheed Wallace in Lead Role

Does this mean we can expect a technical foul and bad shot selection from J.R. against Miami? Kidding, of course. With Sheed, you take the good with the bad. WEEI's Paul Flannery sums it up:

Since arriving in Boston he has been everything everyone said he
would be. He is at times maddening on the court and at others subtly
brilliant. (“He gets away with murder out there” an admiring Pierce
joked after the Indiana game.)

Refreshingly candid, brutally honest and hilariously profane, he has
not been one iota different here than anywhere else. That is why
getting mad at him for racking up technicals and shooting 3’s is like
cursing the rain for being wet. It’s part of who he is and it’s not
going to change.

On Page 2, the medical updates.

Marquis Daniels (left thumb) will re-examined later this week to see what the next step in his recovery should be.

"It's feeling better," said Daniels, who isn't expected to resume practicing with the team until sometime later this month.

Garnett,
Pierce and Rondo did not practice on Monday. Garnett and Pierce are not
expected to play against Miami on Wednesday, while Rondo is
questionable.  Boston's only other notable injury is to Glen Davis, who
is playing with a sprained right ankle injury suffered last week. He's
also still dealing with some discomfort from a torn ligaments injury to
his right thumb.

And on top of that, he's still working his way back into basketball shape.

"The conditioning is OK, but not where I want to be," said Davis, who had a season-high 15 points in Boston's win over Toronto.

I think Rondo will play Wednesday.
