Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
An intriguing free agent who remains available is former Celtic Jordan Crawford, who finished last season with the Golden State Warriors and was hoping his production there would land him a new contract. Crawford has been a victim of the bizarre free agent market that also has squeezed out players such as Andray Blatche and Ramon Sessions. Much of the rest of the free agent lot is made up of aging veterans, including Jermaine O’Neal, Antawn Jamison, Emeka Okafor, and Charlie Villanueva
Globe Basketball Notes -Gary Washburn
Intriguing is right. While the Lebrons, Melos & Loves of the world have made their respective decisions, Crawford, who could bolster a team looking for an offensive upgrade, remains unsigned. And I’m by no means putting Jordan Crawford in the same class as the aforementioned players, but simply noting how guys who could certainly contribute somewhere have slipped under the radar with franchises tripping over themselves to land the big names.
After being dealt to GSW for Joel Anthony & picks last January as part of a three-team deal, Crawford went on to average 8.4 PPG over 42 contests for the Warriors. His minutes obviously were cut, playing behind Steph Curry, Klay Thompson & Steve Blake. Despite his at times frustrating decision making skills, Crawford is a competent scorer who at the young age of 25 still has room for improvement.
With about one month left before NBA teams open up camp, it will be interesting to see if Crawford gets an offer, or if he decides to sign somewhere overseas for the 2014-15 season. Recent reports suggested that the Heat were interested in the man known as Steez, but Miami instead went with Shannon Brown. Brown signed a one-year deal worth $1.3 million. The Bulls & Knicks were also reportedly looking at Crawford.I definitely do not see Boston bringing Crawford back, as the Celtics already have a bevy of guards on the roster and a couple more coming in as training camp invites.
