Your Morning Dump… Where the Celtics are playing only 38 minutes of basketball

bsEvery morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

“We have to become a 48-minute team instead of 38-minute team,” Stevens said. “We’re pretty good for 38 minutes. We have to maintain that focus and level of play through that.”

On Wednesday, the Celtics led by two points at the half and were in a back and forth battle through the bulk of the third quarter.

However, Boston found itself on the short end of an 11-0 run to close out the third which put them in an 80-70 hole going into the fourth.

While the losses were certainly disappointing, Celtics forward Jeff Green sees it as just part of this team’s growth curve.

“We’re going to fight until the end, basically,” Green said. “That’s what we do. We’re going to keep playing until the end of the fourth quarter. We just have to keep at it.”

CSNNE

This is a mantra for any coach at any level. Keep playing hard.

Not only was it an in-game problem for Doc Rivers, but his Celtics teams of the past 6 years would take off weeks and months.

I suspect we will hear a lot of these fundamental issues throughout this “transitional” season.

I’m curious about your impressions of our new head coach so far. 6 games into the preseason, do you feel better, worse or the same about Brad Stevens?

I threw out the question on Twitter last night and was inundated with responses. I feel a tiny bit worse. I know, it’s shocking I would lean on the negative side. I do not like the focus on three-point shooting (I still have PTSD from the O’Brien era). And whether he’s on the sideline or giving an interview, I’m not sensing total confidence and leadership from Stevens. I’m hopeful that will come in time.
