Sherrod Blakely has the Celtics taking the 6-6 combo guard from Australia with the 4th pick in his latest mock draft. Let’s all pray the C’s end up in the top 3 when the draft order is determined on May 20.
Exum will be the star attraction at today’s draft combine in Chicago:
Dante Exum, on the other hand, has chosen to eliminate some of the mystery. The Australian guard — some say he’s a playmaker, others more of a combo guard — has been something of a phantom beyond his exceptional performance during last year’s under-19 World Championship in Prague.
For now, he’s considered a possibility somewhere between the fourth and eighth picks. Perhaps even more than fellow combine attendees Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State combo guard), Noah Vonleh (Indiana power forward) and Julius Randle (Kentucky power forward), Exum has a chance of cracking the top three.
That may especially hold true if Exum can convince scouts that he’s a point guard who, at 6-foot-6, has the length and athleticism to guard the position.
Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley and Dante Exum could be our backcourt rotation next year unless Danny Ainge makes a move.
On Page 2, Paul Pierce says his tank isn’t empty yet.
Pierce said after the Miami Heat‘s series-clinching 96-94 Game 5 win over the Nets that he believes he still has a year or two left in his tank. Where the unrestricted free agent-to-be will play next is uncertain.
“I haven’t really put much thought into it,” Pierce said of what his future holds and if he wants to remain a Net. “I put my whole focus into this season, it’s my last year of the contract. I will sit back and talk to the family and see where my options are from there and go from there.”
Pierce, 36, will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and the Nets own his Bird Rights, which allows them to offer him more money than any other team.
“I think I still have something in the tank I can give a team,” he added. “Maybe one or two (years) at the most.”
Kevin Garnett, 37, has one year remaining on his contract but has contemplated retirement in the past. Garnett did not speak after the game.
Pierce needs to get the hell out of Brooklyn. That team is going nowhere. Clippers?
