Asked about his willingness to use both the sixth and 17th picks in a trade to get a higher selection (with no mention of Love), Ainge said, “I do think that’s a possibility, moving up. Moving down is also a possibility. And moving out or using those picks are all options. We’ll explore all those things.”

As for whether Mr. Six could be a starter as a rookie, Ainge said, “I don’t know. Probably not. I mean, listen, this group of guys is very young. Some are more ready to play than others. That probably won’t have as much of an effect on who we draft, based on their immediate ability to impact our team. But there’s some that are more ready to play than others, and I don’t know who’s going to be available at 6.
“I don’t think you can get a cornerstone, no,” he added at his current spot in the draft. “Not in this year’s draft. I think you can get a player that is capable of starting on an NBA team and being a starter on a winning team. I think we’ll have our options with a handful of guys. I think it’ll be a very difficult choice, because I feel like through the lottery there are some real projects and then there are also some guys I think can be developed into good, starting NBA players. But I don’t know if there’s any cornerstones.”

Who cares that the guys likely available at No. 6 (Aaron Gordon, Noah Vonleh, Marcus Smart) may not be cornerstone players or even impact rookies. Consider them another brick in the rebuild. Omm.
I’m 99% certain Danny Ainge is going to pull off a major deal with the 6th pick anyways.
Though it may be the last thing Celtic followers who went through this past season will want to hear, sources indicate the club is ready to go through another year of treading water if no blockbuster deals are available.

On Page 2, Steve Pagliuca got a jab in on James Worthy.
And Pagliuca still got to enjoy himself. The Lakers, who started the night in the sixth slot behind the Celtics, will pick seventh in the draft. Lakers legend and North Carolina alum James Worthy — a double threat in the eyes of the Duke-educated Pagliuca — was one seat over.
Pagliuca applied the needle by giving Worthy a handful of confetti, saved from the Celtics’ title-clinching Game 6 win over the Lakers in the 2008 Finals.
