Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big story line. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
The NBA put together a 24 minute video, in chronological order, of the top 100 plays of last season. It’s a lot of fun and it’ll help you pass the time as you try to shake last night’s hangover.
If you’re not into waiting around for the whole thing, or if you want to avoid all the Kobe and LeBron highlights, just skip to 14:30 and 17:38 for the two Celtics appearances. Both are buzzer beaters (Tyler Zeller’s at home against Utah, and Marcus Smart’s in Toronto). The Celtics make a few other appearances, but only as the supporting cast for someone else’s highlight.
I think it’s worth watching the whole thing. Or at the very least skip ahead and remind yourself of how silky smooth Steph Curry is on the floor.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoYdCa4_lgQ]This comes courtesy of Dime, and it features UNLV freshman Derrick Jones whipping off two ridiculous dunks from just inside the free throw line. I mean… this kid can fly. I don’t know what kind of player he’s going to be, but he’s at least going to make the college dunk contest look really interesting in March.
And Finally….
I share this only because I’m openly rooting for bad things to happen to the Sixers franchise. Not the players… just the franchise. I hate their blatant tanking and I think it’s going to blow up in their face.
The $9 million the Philadelphia 76ers ownership will pay Joel Embiid in his first two years, even though he has not played an NBA game, will come out of their pockets.
Although Embiid’s contract is insured, since it is among the five highest salaries on the team, sources say Embiid’s right foot was excluded from the policy because it was a pre-existing injury. Embiid first had surgery on the foot the week before the 2014 NBA draft, in which he was taken by the 76ers with the third pick.
If you’re not aware of how these things work, teams have insurance on all of their players. So when Rajon Rondo tore his ACL a couple of years ago, the team’s insurance paid a large chunk of his salary, not the owners.
While I take no joy in player injuries, I do take a little joy in the fact that the Sixers organization has to lay out $9 million of their own money for a guy who isn’t playing.
Seriously, screw Philly. I hate what they’re doing to the game and I hope they stay in the cellar for a decade.
