Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
"The past couple of years, we always had two or three plays we could call and get a . . . not necessarily make the shot, but get at least a decent shot in the possession," Rondo said.
He said he doesn't know why that hasn't been the case this season, but understands that it is a major problem for the Celtics as they limp toward the end of the regular season for the second year in a row.
"Right now," Rondo said. "We're a little bit all over the place."
CSNNE: Celtics searching for late game answers
A little bit?
The Celtics pride themselves on execution. They pride themselves on being a precision machine that will break you down over the course of a game and do things like get Ray freakin' Allen… perhaps the best shooter of all time… a ton of open looks.
But right now the best offense is coming out of Paul Pierce just breaking guys down and then taking advantage of the chaos that ensues. That's great for the time being, but that can't last forever. The C's need to get back to what they've always done best.
There has been some talk recently about the C's missing Perkins as a screener. There might be something to that, despite the "illegal screen" joke that just crossed your mind. When everything the C's do on offense is based on precision, someone not forcing a defender out of place could throw that precision out of whack.
Regardless… the C's need to figure this out quickly. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight… if the C's come out and play hard… or if they struggle. If they play well, and play hard, and win… then we've been going nuts for nothing. If they still look bad… then we've got an issue.
