Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
While most players on non-playoff teams like the Celtics (25-57 this past season) catch the first flight out of town to some exotic destination only to return to Boston sometime near the end of the summer, a handful of Celtics – Rajon Rondo among them – have already been in the gym working towards preparing for what they hope will be a better 2014-2015 season.
“Rondo and Brandon (Bass) and Chris Johnson and Chris Babb have all been in this week,” Danny Ainge, Boston’s president of basketball operations, told CSNNE.com. “Those guys have all been in working out.”
And Avery Bradley is coming in soon as well.
Phil Pressey just left town last week, but will likely be back at some point this summer to work out some more as well.
While there is indeed some uncertainty as to what the future holds for all those players in Boston, it’s clear that their focus – for now at least – is to do all they can to prepare for next season as a member of the Boston Celtics.
Damn you, Rajon Rondo.
How dare you, an 8 year veteran, continue to work on your game and assist in the development of other younger players so early in the offseason.
File under: A story you’ll never hear on sports talk radio when blowhards are bashing Rondo’s character.
On Page 2, Deron Williams continues to sh!t himself in the Miami series.
Deron Williams has gone missing again.
And it couldn’t have happened at a worse time — in his team’s most pivotal game of the season.
In his latest disappearing act, the $98 million man was held scoreless for the first time in his playoff career on Thursday night, going 0-for-9 from the field in the Brooklyn Nets’ 94-82 loss to the Miami Heat in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals at AmericanAirlines Arena.
“I’ll definitely be thinking about it,” said Williams, who added seven rebounds and six assists in 37 minutes. The Nets were outscored by 18 points with him on the court.
The “franchise” point guard had been held without a point on just two other occasions: Dec. 7, 2005 against Atlanta and Jan. 30, 2006 against San Antonio.
Some guys excel in the playoffs (see Rondo, Rajon) while others wilt under the spotlight and pressure.
And finally, a locker room surprise for the Blazers.

And we thought Red Auerbach was shady for turning up the heat in the visitor’s locker room back in the old Garden.
