The key to Boston’s trap being successful hinges heavily on the play of the Celtics big men, who are asked to come out and trap, and then hustle back to get in position to rebound or match back up with the man they were previously guarding.
It makes for a pretty exhausting night.

Big man after big man has come through Boston… and big man after big man has left with disappointing results… and this is probably a big reason why. It’s not only hard work, but it takes a level of intelligence to recognize situations and get it right.
Brandon Bass is pretty good at it, actually, and he never really gets enough credit for that role in the defense. People will ask me why Bass is out on the floor when he might otherwise be struggling, and this is it. He’s demonstrated a pretty consistent ability to defend the way the C’s want their bigs to defend. Wilcox is a step behind, and Sullinger is still learning. He got torched on a few of those Wednesday night.
But it all starts and ends with KG on the floor. He’s still good enough, long enough, and sneaky enough, to get the job done.
