Your Morning Dump..Where Walter Is Eyeing The BC Job

feat

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump

The list of candidates for the head basketball coach’s position at Boston College includes Walter McCarty, the Herald has learned.

And the Celtics assistant coach acknowledged yesterday he is intent on exploring the possibility.

“I’m very interested,” said McCarty, who spent 71⁄2 years as a player for the Celts. “I want to be highly considered. I love the city. I have great ties in the city. I have a great foundation here, especially with recruiting.

Walter McCarty Eyes BC Job-Steve Bulpett

waltermccarty.rMcCarty is obviously no stranger to the college game. He starred at the University of Kentucky from 1993-1996 and played a key role (averaged 11.3 pts & 5.7 rebs in 36 gms) on the ’96 Wildcats team that won the NCAA championship. Walter retired from the NBA in 2006 and joined Rick Pitino’s staff at Louisville in 2007 as an assistant. He stayed at Louisville through 2010 before being invited to join Jim Obrien’s staff in Indiana with the Pacers’ organization.

The Eagles’ men’s hoop program has a record of 33-63 over the past three seasons, and is in dire need of a complete overhaul. Long gone are the days of Craig Smith, Scoonie Penn, Jared Dudley & sold out nights at the Conte Forum. During recently fired head coach Steve Donahue’s four year tenure, the Eagles had two of their worst seasons in school history and zero tournament appearances. And with BC’s men’s hockey program excelling each and every year, most have forgotten the school even has a hoops team. But Walter believes that the “right person” can help make the Eagles program competitive again. Is that person Walter?

“This city loves basketball, and that’s a great university,” McCarty said. “I think the people in the area and the students can be re-engaged with the basketball program. There’s a good fan base. It just needs to be revived and be resurrected with the right person in place who can re-engage the community, who can engage the fan base and bring them back together.

It’s been a joy having the familiar and friendly face of Walter McCarty around the Celtics’ organization again, but I wish him nothing but the best should he choose to pursue BC’s head coaching vacancy. He will certainly have his work cut out for him if he does indeed get the job. No word yet when the school will begin officially interviewing candidates. Jim Calhoun is also rumored to be a possible candidate for the position.

Page 2: Kevin Love Looks Spent

After the Grizzlies’ 109-92 drubbing of the TWolves last night, Kevin Love just looked spent. That is the first word that comes to my mind when I watch the look in his eyes during this post game video courtesy of CJZero. That faraway gaze and glazed over look tells me that Mr. Love is done in Minny. It’s time for him and the Wolves to both move on if you ask me. The loss dropped Minnesota to 34-35 and seven full games behind Phoenix for the eighth playoff spot in the West. Love is in the third year of a four year, $60 mil. deal with Minnesota.
