Your Thursday Afternoon Update

Let’s check the links for this afternoon.

With the launch of the Big Ten Network a week away, the channel says it’s “100% confident” it will not be on Comcast. So, that means fans of Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue and Penn State won’t be able to see the season openers of their schools next weekend. Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press reports that BTN says time has run out on Comcast. Jim Carty of the Ann Arbor News says BTN will begin an ad blitz urging fans to dump Comcast in favor of DirecTV which will carry the channel beginning on August 30. Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune says while Comcast looks out of the picture, BTN is hopeful to strike deals with Time Warner, Mediacom, Charter, RCN and Dish Network.

Paul Silverfarb profiles John J. Filipelli, President of Production and Programming for the YES Network. Filipelli has worked for NBC and Fox Sports prior to joining YES.

MLB.com is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its first live webcast with a free webcast of the Yankees-Tigers game this Sunday. That’s nice and there’s no sarcasm there.

Not as many links this afternoon, but it’s the quality of the links, not the quantity and we certainly have some quality links here.
