New report out today that Zdeno Chara will miss at least the next week of games.
From CBS Boston:
Best case scenario for the Bruins captain is he will only miss the next three games. If his recovery goes well, a December 19 return against the Montreal Canadiens could be realistic. If his recovery takes longer than expected, he could be out until after Christmas.
Could be worse. Could be a lot worse. See: Marco Sturm.
Bruins play three games over the next week:
- Tuesday against the Kings
- Weds. against the Senators
- Saturday against the Flyers
Philly’s the biggest threat in that stretch, topping the Eastern Conference. Both the Kings and Senators are sitting below playoff spots, each with 30 points. If recovery goes beyond this week, Chara could miss games against the Habs, Panthers, Coyotes and Stars.
The good news is the Bruins have a strong defensive core. Ference and Siedenberg will have to lead the charge and guys like Boychuk, Corvo and McQuaid will have to step it up a few notches to make sure the defense is sound. And luckily the Bs have Thomas and Rask in net. Should be interesting to see how the Bs fare without Chara and with Kampfer in the line-up.
