Atlanta Falcons Division Odds

Tampa Bay ran away with the division last year and easily won the NFC South with a 13-4 record.

With Brady back from retirement, two teams in the division will have a good chance of making the playoffs in 2022.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints are clearly the top two teams in the NFC South.

Tampa Bay is heavily favored to win the NFC South once again at -290 odds. New Orleans has the next best chance at +335 odds to win the division.

Meanwhile, the Falcons come in at +2200 odds, double that of the next-worst team (Carolina Panthers, +1100).

Atlanta Falcons Team Wins

In 2021, Atlanta finished with a 7-10 record and finished third in its division.

But, without Matt Ryan under center, the Falcons will be going into the 17-game regular season projected for just 4.5 wins.

Atlanta is supposed to be in a rebuilding mode but Mariota could prove to be an upgrade over Matt Ryan, who has more losses than any active NFL quarterback.

Atlanta Falcons Prediction

With Matt Ryan now in Indianapolis with the Colts, Atlanta will have a new starting quarterback for the first time since 2008.

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota will be the new starting QB for the Falcons. He was the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and he gives Atlanta a mobile quarterback under center.

Atlanta is in a rebuilding period, so things may be rocky for him this season. Mariota will also be without Calvin Ridley, one of his top targets on the outside after the wide receiver was suspended for the 2022 season.

It will not be an easy start to the season for Mariota and Atlanta. They open the season at home against the New Orleans Saints and then travel to play in Los Angeles against the defending Super Bowl Champion Rams in week two. After that, they get a couple easier games, going to Seattle and then playing at home vs a Browns team without Deshaun Watson.

It’ll be a difficult three-game stretch after Cleveland, as the Falcons will play Tampa Bay on the road, San Francisco at home, and the Bengals in Cincinnati.

The final four games after the Week 14 bye week will also be a gruesome stretch for Falcons fans.

Beginning in Week 15, Atlanta plays at New Orleans and at Baltimore, before ending the season with two home games versus Arizona and Tampa Bay.

It is easy to assume Atlanta will lose all four games to end the season.

However, 4.5 wins seems a bit low, especially considering they won seven games last year.

Here are a list of possible wins for the Falcons in 2022:

  • Beating New Orleans in Week 1 at home with Sean Payton gone and with Alvin Kamara likely suspended for the game,
  • Seattle in Seattle,
  • Cleveland at home without Watson,
  • Carolina at home,
  • Chicago at home,
  • Washington in Washington
  • Two winnable games vs Carolina.

The 4.5 win total seems very low and Mariota is not a significant drop off from Matt Ryan at this stage in Ryan’s career.

Out of a possible eight winnable games, the Falcons could very well come away with at least four wins, putting them in a good position to eclipse their projected win total.

Take the over 4.5 wins for Atlanta in 2022.

Atlanta Falcons Next Game Pick

Carolina has lost four out of their last five games.

Atlanta is coming off a narrow loss against the Los Angeles Chargers last week.

Atlanta’s rushing attack has been good this season. They rank fourth in the league in rushing yards per game.

Tyler Allgeier is averaging 4.5 yards per carry and Cordarrelle Patterson is averaging 5.4 yards per carry.

Marcus Mariota has 304 rushing yards through nine games. However, Mariota is only averaging 173.4 passing yards per game.

The Falcons are top 10 in points per game and the Panthers are bottom 10 in points per game.

Both teams rank bottom five in passing yards per game.

Atlanta is eighth in rushing yards allowed per game but they rank dead last in passing yards allowed per game.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, they will not be able to take advantage of a weak Falcons pass defense.

Atlanta defeated Carolina two weeks ago in an overtime thriller. The Falcons will once again defeat the Panthers.

Our NFL experts predict the Falcons will win this matchup on the road and they will cover the spread.

2022 Atlanta Falcons Preseason Schedule

The best time of the year is here as the NFL is back for another season.

The NFL wisely shortened the preseason to three games, which gives teams a little bit less time to get in reps before the games matter.

Atlanta will want to see newly acquired QB Marcus Mariota and rookie QB Desmond Ridder in action before the season.

Ridder will see most of the playing time, as Atlanta will have to decide if he could eventually become their starting quarterback.
