AFC East Odds, Standings, and Predictions

The AFC East was dominated by Tom Brady and Bill Belichick for nearly 20 seasons.

The tides have shifted and the Buffalo Bills are now the class of the division.

Miami is an up-and-coming team with the acquisition of Tyreek Hill. Tua Tagovailoa will need to step up and improve in his third season in order for Miami to compete with the Bills for the AFC East crown.

New England’s offense is the biggest concern this season.

Belichick will still have a good defense but Joe Judge and Matt Patricia will call the offensive plays.

With no weapons at WR, the Patriots will have a difficult time on offense and could force Mac Jones to take a step back in his second NFL season.

The New York Jets have a young team that could be good in a year or two but they are not there just yet. In 2022, the Jets are still projected to finish in a distant fourth in the division race.

AFC East Odds

The AFC East has a Super Bowl favorite in the division and two other teams that have a chance to make the playoffs.

The Bills are one of the very best teams in the league, while Miami and New England can make the playoffs.

New York is a young team that has a bright future but they are not as good as the other three teams in the division right now.

Below, we’ll break down the AFC East odds for each team in the division.

Buffalo Bills (-235)

The top online sportsbooks have the Buffalo Bills as heavy favorites to win the AFC East at -235 odds.

Not only are the Bills heavily favored to win the AFC East but the best NFL betting sites have the Bills favored to win the Super Bowl at +575 odds. The next best odd is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at +900 to hoist the Lombardi trophy.

Buffalo’s offense and defense were both excellent last year and they will be once again this season. They ranked first in points allowed per game and third in points scored per game.

The Bills should be heavy favorites to win the AFC East.

Miami Dolphins (+425)

At a very distant second, Miami has the second-best odds to win the AFC East at +425.

The Dolphins should improve offensively with the acquisition of Tyreek Hill.

Hill will allow Tua to take more deep shots and open up the play calling more.

New head coach Mike McDaniel will help Tua improve this season. As the offensive coordinator for the 49ers last season, he helped Deebo Samuel have the best season of his career. McDaniel’s offensive scheme was excellent for the 49ers last year.

While the Dolphins could challenge to make the playoffs, Vegas has it right putting them at a distant second place to win the division.

New England Patriots (+500)

The New England Patriots still have the greatest head coach of all time still there, which makes them always a threat.

The defense under Belichick should remain a top 10 defense. New England has ranked in the top 10 in points allowed per game each year since 2012… where they ranked 11th.

However, their offense is going to struggle this year. Josh McDaniels is no longer the offensive coordinator. Matt Patricia and Joe Judge will call the plays for the Pats. With the departure of McDaniels and no real weapon at WR, Mac Jones could take a step back in his second season.

The offense will hold the Patriots back this season, which is why they have the third-best odds to win the division.

New York Jets (+2000)

At a very distant fourth place, the New York Jets have a +2000 odd to win the division.

The Jets had three selections in the first round and took two defensive players and a WR.

Rookie CB Ahmad Gardner is a week 1 starter and has the tools to become a top shutdown corner in the league.

Zach Wilson will miss the first three games at a minimum. Joe Flacco will be the starting QB for at least the first three weeks.

New York has the young talent to be good in a year or two but they are a long shot to win the AFC East this season.

Buffalo Bills Season Preview

Super Bowl Odds: +575
AFC East Odds: -235
Projected Win Total: 11.5 wins

The Buffalo Bills head into the season with very high expectations. They are the favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Last season, Buffalo was excellent on both sides of the ball.

The Bills ranked first in points allowed per game and passing yards allowed per game, third in points per game, seventh in passing yards per game, and sixth in rushing yards per game.

Josh Allen is the favorite to win the MVP. He has thrown for over 35 passing TDs and has rushed for over five rushing TDs in each of the last two years. Allen has thrown for over 4,400 passing yards and rushed for over 400 rushing yards in each of the last two seasons.

PFF ranks the Bills’ secondary sixth best heading into the season. However, star CB Tre’Davious White will miss at least the first four games of the season. The pass defense may not be as dominant till he returns.

Buffalo signed Vonn Miller in the offseason to bolster their pass rush. An already great defense got even better with the signing.

The Bills will be better this season than last and are favored to win the Super Bowl. They have arguably the best all-around team in the league.

Miami Dolphins Season Preview

Super Bowl Odds: +4000
AFC East Odds: +425
Projected Win Total: 8.5 wins

Miami’s offense should improve in 2022.

Last season, Miami ranked 22nd in points per game, 17th in passing yards per game, and 29th in rushing yards per game.

The Dolphins traded for star WR Tyreek Hill, brought in Mike McDaniel as their head coach, and signed left tackle Terron Armstead.

Those three moves will help Tua take a huge leap in year three.

Miami’s rush and pass defense was average in 2021. They signed pass rusher Melvin Ingram, who may help slightly elevate the pass rush.

The Dolphins should improve on offense and they have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs in a tough AFC.

New England Patriots Season Preview

Super Bowl Odds: +5000
AFC East Odds: +500
Projected Win Total: 8.5 wins

New England made the playoffs last season in Mac Jones’ rookie season. Jones had a good rookie season.

However, he could take a step back in year two. Josh McDaniels is no longer the offensive coordinator. Joe Judge and Matt Patricia will share play-calling duties.

The Patriots ranked seventh in points per game, 14th in passing yards per game, and eighth in rushing yards per game. All three of those stats could take a dip in 2022.

New England’s defense will remain good. Belichick has had the defense rank top 10 in points allowed per game each season since 2012.

In a stacked AFC, making the playoffs seems like it is not likely for the Patriots due to no weapons at WR and a significant downgrade in offensive play calling.

New York Jets Season Preview

Super Bowl Odds: +10000
AFC East Odds: +2000
Projected Win Total: 5.5 wins

The Jets enter the season as a distant fourth to win the AFC East.

They allowed the most points per game, the third most passing yards allowed per game, and the fourth worst in rushing yards allowed per game.

The offense was not much better. They ranked 28th in points per game, 20th in passing yards per game, and 25th in rushing yards per game.

Zach Wilson will miss at least the first three games of the season.

New York had three first-round draft picks in the first round of the NFL Draft.

One of the picks was Ahmad Gardner, who is a very good shutdown corner.

New York has a bright future but this season will be another struggling year.
