The Ottawa Senators look poised to start a new era under new head coach Guy Boucher.
It’s an exciting time around the franchise, especially as news and notes continue to emerge this summer ahead of the season’s first puck dropping. For those looking to place bets on NHL futures and lines at places like oddsdigger com, it’s important to keep pace with such updates.
Here’s a look at the latest out of Ottawa’s camp.
Derick Brassard Touches Down in Ottawa
Derick Brassard has finally arrived for the Senators.
Ottawa decided to trade for the veteran center last month by dishing Mika Zibanejad to the New York Rangers. Early returns have been great, which makes sense considering the Senators almost struck a deal for Brassard during the NHL draft. Brassard scored 27 goals and 48 points last season, so he’s a major get and more committed to the franchise than Zibanejad was.
Matt Puempel Ready to Stick in NHL
Matt Puempel sounds ready for a fresh start under the direction of Boucher, hence his re-signing with the team in July. Fans will recall, though, Puempel got sent down to the AHL out of training camp last year and didn’t get recalled for a while. Only 23 years old, all rumblings out of camp now suggest he’s ready to stick and earn a full-time gig. Given his upside, it’s nothing short of good news for the Senators.
Cody Ceci Contract Update
Cody Ceci has yet to ink a new contract with the Senators.
The restricted free agent was a major force for the team last year, as a defender posting 10 goals and 26 points in 75 appearances. Both sides have had problems coming to an agreement, though, and it’s somewhat casting a shadow on an otherwise positive offseason. Given his restricted status, Ceci will surely be under contract by the opener in August. That said, it’s understandable if the situation gives bettors some pause.
