The Top Teams in American Baseball League History and Who to Bet on This Season

The baseball season is a betting grind paced over six months of the regular season, followed by the playoffs. Before the season starts, fans will want to know who the best teams are, which teams are likely to give them the best returns from their bets, and how to bet on baseball in general. In 2015, an all-time high of $897.3 million was wagered at Nevada sportsbooks on baseball, a figure which may well be replicated this year. Let’s take a look at the top teams in American League Baseball, and which ones are worth putting a bet on this season.

Chicago Cubs

For the past two years, there has been a wager offered on whether the Cubs will win the World Series before the 2018 season at the race and sportsbook at the Wynn. Last year, a bet in favour of the Cubs winning the World Series prior to 2018 opened at +500 with no at -700, but currently these odds are dropping; ‘yes’ is at +250 and ‘no’ at -300. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the Chicago Cubs have had some of America’s best baseball players on the team, including Randy Wells, a rookie in 2009 who surprised the team and its fans massively by finishing tied for the team to lead with twelve wins along with All-Star Ted Lilly. Wells became the first rookie to reach winning numbers in the double digits since Kerry Wood won thirteen, back in 1998.

San Francisco Giants

Last season, the San Francisco Giants had a disappointing run due to their many injuries and an ineffective performance from third baseman Casey McGehee. Yet, the Giants’ season also featured a huge amount of individual achievement, regardless of the end result, which is why they are high up when it comes to the bookies’ favourites to win for this season. Last season saw Giants’ players Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey make the National League All-Star team, along with second baseman Joe Panik and shortstop Brandon Crawford, who became the first Giant to win the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards in the same season since the legendary Barry Bonds in 1977. If not for the injuries which undermined these and many other achievements, the results for the Giants last season could have been very different.

New York Mets

Based in the New York borough of Queens, the New York Mets are third on the list of bookies’ favourites to win this baseball league season. Tying a franchise season record of eleven straight wins last season on April 23rd, the Mets had won ten straight homestand games for the first time in their history, making them the seventh team to win at least ten straight homestand games since 1990. On September 26, 2015, the Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-2, clinching the NL East division title.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Established in Brooklyn, New York in 1883, the Los Angeles Dodgers relocated to Los Angeles before the 1958 season. As a franchise, it’s easy to see why the Dodgers are currently on the bookies’ top five to win the league, as they already have a range of huge achievements under their belt, including six World Series titles and twenty-one National League pennants. They are also one of the biggest rivals of the San Francisco Giants, with the Dodgers-Giants rivalry being one of the most long-standing in the world of American baseball. The unusual thing about this rivalry is that unlike many other baseball team rivals where one remains dominant throughout their history, the Dodgers and Giants have maintained a persistent balance. But, which is going to win the league this year?

Kansas City Royals

Last but not least are last year’s winners the Kansas City Royals. Will they be able to replicate the stunning performance of last year’s season where they took home their first Central Division title and then scooped up the coveted winning spot in the 2015 World Series? Entering the 2015 All-Star break with the best record so far in the American League, will they be as on fire this season as they were last year?

Which baseball teams are you hoping to see take the top spots this season? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.
