Just days after his arrest for being pulled over for speeding and being found with a handgun. marijuana, and hollow point bullets, wide receiver Josh Huff has been released from the Philadelphia Eagles per the team’s official Twitter page.
Following the arrest, Huff spoke to the media on Wednesday after practice, and gave his take on the incident:
“I’m a professional athlete. What professional athlete don’t have a gun? I have a wife and I have a son at home. My job is to protect them at all costs, and my job is to protect myself as well even though I know I have security here, but I have to protect myself as well.”
Huff also denied having the gun on Eagles’ property, although there is now some speculation that he indeed may have had the gun while at the NovaCare Complex where the Eagles practice and handle day-to-day operations.
The third-year receiver met with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and head coach Doug Pederson after his arrest. On Wednesday, Pederson stated that Huff would be available for Sunday afternoon’s game versus the New York Giants pending any further developments.
The Eagles drafted Huff in the third round (86th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. He has since saw significant time on the field as the team’s kick return specialist.
Although the Eagles have made their final decision on Huff, there has yet to be any word of discipline actions from the league.
