It was announced earlier this evening that Ravens quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn would not be accompanying the team’s coaches to the Senior Bowl this week, and that the club had “parted ways” with him after a seven hour meeting with Zorn, John Harbaugh, and Cam Cameron. In other words…Zorn was the sacrificial lamb that fans had been looking for after the club’s step backwards on offense. Ironically, QB play wasn’t the reason that the Ravens offense struggled. When Joe Flacco was upright, he was doing everything that he could to help the team win. The problem was, is that injuries in the offensive line (most notably to Jared Gaither) resulted in Flacco getting sacked a hell of a lot. Zorn will apparently be replaced by the tandem of Cameron and offensive assistant Craig Ver Steeg.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The issue here isn’t with Flacco’s play, the issue was with the O-line’s protection, and a pair of drops in the divisional game against the Steelers. Drops weren’t an issue all season, so it sucks to see them get focused on a little too much after one bad game. Sure, that game cost the Ravens the season, but it’s like complaining about a papercut to your finger when you have a gunshot wound to the torso. Like Tom mentioned in his previous post, the issue is with the line, not the receivers or the quarterback. It’s a shame Zorn got axed for something he had no control over, but someone had to pay.
