{"id":188180,"date":"2007-05-25T14:21:03","date_gmt":"2007-05-25T14:21:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vip.local\/2007\/05\/25\/breaking-news-braun-called-up\/"},"modified":"2007-05-25T14:21:03","modified_gmt":"2007-05-25T14:21:03","slug":"breaking-news-braun-called-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/news\/breaking-news-braun-called-up\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING NEWS: Braun called up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brewers put reliever Elmer Dessens on the 15-day DL and called up third-baseman Ryan Braun.<br \/>\nThe move came as a surprise, as the Brewers were widely expected to wait until June to call up Braun, to avoid him becoming a &#8220;Super 2.&#8221;\u00a0 The move was likely made to\u00a0add some power out of the the\u00a0third-baseman position.\u00a0 No word yet as to whether Braun will start Friday evening in San\u00a0Diego and where he&#8217;ll bat in the batting order.<br \/>\nI can&#8217;t help but wonder if the call-up is temporary, however, as Ned Yost almost always wants a 12-man pitching staff&#8230;and with Sheets having a blister and likely missing at least one start, it looks like Carlos Villanueva will be moved into the rotation on Tuesday&#8230;which leaves only Wise, Turnbow, Spurling, and Shouse as middle relievers for both the Padres&#8217; and Braves&#8217; series&#8230;for Super 2 service time, it only counts games on the roster, right? They could send him down after this weekend for another reliever, and it would only count as 3 games. For him to be added permanently to the IF, Doug Melvin is going to have to move an OF or Tony Graffanino.
