Please enjoy responsibly.<\/em><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cheers!<\/strong> <em>(Something good that happened)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brewers Sign Their No. 1 Pick:<\/strong> There\u2019s always a little bit of intrigue after the MLB draft as far as signing the top picks.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t that long ago (2010) the Brewers failed to sign their No. 1 pick, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dylan_Covey\">Dylan Covey<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 There were unexpected medical issues with Covey, but it goes to show you can never be sure.\u00a0 Happily, the Brewers <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/news\/article\/186094270\/brewers-finalize-deal-with-top-pick-corey-ray\">locked up<\/a><\/strong> their 2016 No. 1 pick Corey Ray in short order.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">First-round draft pick, OF Corey Ray (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FutureIs_Bright?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FutureIs_Bright<\/a>), has signed and will be introduced today at Miller Park! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ODalPr6hAg\">pic.twitter.com\/ODalPr6hAg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Milwaukee Brewers (@Brewers) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Brewers\/status\/746690377550266368?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 25, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Ray\u2019s $4,125,000 signing bonus was more than $250K below the slot value for the No. 5 pick. I must admit, I have not had occasion to look up where these \u201cslot values\u201d come from.\u00a0 Ray\u2019s signing bonus seems pretty generous.\u00a0 I\u2019m all in favor of adults working for the highest level of compensation they can get, but at the same time it\u2019s comforting to hear about a guy willing to settle for less.\u00a0 Settling is an important life skill that doesn\u2019t get nearly enough acclaim.\u00a0 It\u2019s okay to settle.<\/p>\n<p>Ray joined both the TV and radio broadcast booths after taking batting practice at Miller Park on Saturday. The guy had one hell of a day.\u00a0 Not only did he get to mingle with big leaguers, but he got to shoot the breeze with Bob Uecker.\u00a0 Here\u2019s to a bright future for Ray.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buzzkill<\/strong> <em>(Something forgettable that happened)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>What the Hell Happened to Domingo Santana?<\/strong> This was one of the players Brewers fans were looking forward to seeing during the first season of the rebuild.\u00a0 Santana hits bigass opposite field homers like this.<\/p>\n[mlbvideo id=&#8221;607011083&#8243; width=&#8221;400&#8243; height=&#8221;224&#8243; \/]\n<p>He guns down suckers at the plate like this.<\/p>\n[mlbvideo id=&#8221;771442483&#8243; width=&#8221;400&#8243; height=&#8221;224&#8243; \/]\n<p>He stays on the DL with no clear return date <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/m.brewers.mlb.com\/news\/article\/185975762\/chris-capuano-domingo-santana-out-for-a-while\">like this<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Santana has not resumed baseball activities since beginning his second DL stint of the season June 10 and is unlikely to return until after the All-Star break. [\u2026]\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s making progress. He&#8217;s not at the point of doing baseball stuff right now, though,&#8221; Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. &#8220;So it&#8217;s going a little slower than we&#8217;d like. He&#8217;s going to be a ways away still. &#8230; The All-Star break would be optimistic for me right now, that&#8217;s what I&#8217;d say.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>C\u2019MON. Santana is one of the few Brewers who is fun to watch, but unlikely to be traded for playing so well.\u00a0 This is a guy we should be able to enjoy for a few seasons.\u00a0 We\u2019ll be lucky if we see him for half of 2016.\u00a0 Bloody hell.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s to You <\/strong><em>(Standout player(s) or play(s) of the week)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Keon Broxton:<\/strong> Speaking of guys who are fun to watch, I happened to go the game on Friday, and as Broxton drew pinch hitting duty in the fifth inning, my companion said (paraphrasing), \u201cC\u2019mon, Keon, hit a homerun here.\u201d\u00a0 And he did.<\/p>\n[mlbvideo id=&#8221;852659583&#8243; width=&#8221;400&#8243; height=&#8221;224&#8243; \/]\n<p>How often does anyone ever call a homerun at a game? It was Broxton\u2019s first career homer and it was off of a legit ace, Max Scherzer.\u00a0 Broxton will presumably be telling this story at least as often as Uecker talks about hitting homers off Sandy Koufax and Gaylord Perry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Back on the Wagon<\/strong> <em>(Thoughts on the week ahead)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Brewers have a chance to get revenge on the Dodgers for making them look like chumps three out of four times in Los Angeles. The Brewers shot themselves in the foot with some unfortunate walks in Los Angeles, both intentional and unintentional. <em>No more walks, fools.<\/em> Make them hit their way on.<\/p>\n<p>Then it\u2019s \u201cavoid the sweep\u201d time in St. Louis.
