{"id":22622,"date":"2009-02-20T18:15:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-20T18:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theunionblue.wordpress.com\/2009\/02\/20\/vermette-should-be-a-priority"},"modified":"2009-02-20T18:15:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-20T18:15:00","slug":"vermette-should-be-a-priority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/news\/vermette-should-be-a-priority\/","title":{"rendered":"Vermette Should be a Priority"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i246.photobucket.com\/albums\/gg116\/canadan82\/CBJ\/TradeTalk.jpg\"><img alt=\"Vermette Should be a Priority\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i246.photobucket.com\/albums\/gg116\/canadan82\/CBJ\/TradeTalk.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIt may seem like a broken record after this concept was first addressed over a month ago, but I believe it is time to really reconsider how valuable Vermette would be to the Jackets roster.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>1 &#8211; He is a strong skater who rarely takes a night off. \u00a0There are a lot of players on the Jackets roster that like to float at times during a game, and Vermette would not be one of them. \u00a0He would fit very well between guys like Voracek and Chimera, who are always flying when on the ice. \u00a0The other possibility would be having him playing with Williams and Umberger on the second line. \u00a0Because the pairing of Chimera and Voracek has been so versatile this year, the Jackets could easily run three lines at almost the same level of ice time.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>2 &#8211; He is a faceoff monster. \u00a0He and Malhotra are atop the league leaders in faceoff percentage, and that is something that Columbus needs to work on. \u00a0While Peca and Umberger are decent on the draw, having another big time faceoff man could pay heavy dividends in the late going of the season, when every possession counts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>3 &#8211; He is a penalty killer. \u00a0These players are becoming few and far between in the NHL, and having yet another guy who can get out on the ice and stymy powerplays is yet another way to really bolster their roster.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>4 &#8211; He can really dangle. \u00a0While his finishing touch still needs work, his tenacity around the puck, and his control with the puck are really something the Jackets could use in the neutral zone and around the boards. \u00a0This could also translate well on the second powerplay unit, which is something Vermette is no stranger to.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>These are only a couple reasons why he would be worth obtaining, especially if Ottawa starts considering themselves out of the playoff race. \u00a0What are your thoughts?<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It may seem like a broken record after this concept was first addressed over a month ago, but I believe&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[323089884],"tags":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v22.2 (Yoast SEO v22.2) -
