The deal was more about creating roster and salary cap flexibility than getting Blount, who likely won&#8217;t be on the roster when Minnesota opens training camp in late September. <\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>From<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs2.startribune.com\/blogs\/wolves\/2009\/08\/13\/kahn-deals-again-qrich-to-miami-formark-blount\/\"> Jerry Zgoda\/Star Tribune: <\/a><\/div>\n<div><em>Both players have expiring salaries, but the Wolves will save nearly $1.4 million by waiving Blount and his $7.96 million contract rather than dump Richardson\u2019s $9.35 million contract.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>By making this deal, it\u2019s clear Kahn never intended having Richardson, who likely would have been a runaway gunner in his contract year, on this season\u2019s team.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Kahn still could deal Blount\u2019s contract in another deal, but it seems like waiving him outright is more likely.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Either way, he\u2019ll be back with the Wolves on paper only \u2014 and probably fairly briefly \u2014 nearly two years after the Wolves\u2019 old regime miraculously traded Ricky Davis and Blount to the Heat for Antoine Walker and that 2009 first-round pick that Kahn in essence dealt to Denver for a future first-round pick.<\/em><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Pioneer Press: Minnesota Timberwolves president David Kahn has traded shooting guard Quentin Richardson to the Miami Heat for&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[605037453],"tags":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v23.2 (Yoast SEO v23.2) -
