Time enough to draw a breath and reflect\u00a0on what might have been, you might think, but for long\u00adsuffering Lions\u2019 fans that call will\u00a0take a while to put to bed. Even<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/nfl\/story\/president-barack-obama-detroits-lions-dallas-cowboys-penalty-id-be-pretty-aggravated-010615\" target=\"_blank\"> the President was angry<\/a>. Look away now, if it\u2019s still too\u00a0painful to see it all over.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Pass Interference Call Against Cowboys Should Not Have Been Overturned - Mike Pereira\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tdAKk42OzVw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Some, you might anticipate, would be more forgiving than others. Lions fans have a long\u00a0history of dealing with disappointment, after all. But don\u2019t expect the team\u2019s most famous\u00a0follower, Eminem, to put the bitterness of his reaction to one side any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>Having made a career out of venting his angst at one downturn or another in his life\u00a0Eminem is not really the ideal man to look to when it comes to forgiving and forgetting.\u00a0But for all that, the rapper is a man who knows that sticking with the Lions through thick\u00a0and thin is part of what has made him who is. Check out the lyrics to <em><a href=\"http:\/\/genius.com\/Eminem-legacy-lyrics\/\" target=\"_blank\">Legacy<\/a><\/em> to see how\u00a0he turns a Lions\u2019 related negative \u00ad&#8211; that 0-\u00ad16 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/sports\/nfl\/lions\/2015\/01\/28\/detroit-lions-seattle-seahawks\/22455587\/\" target=\"_blank\">2008 season<\/a> &#8211;\u00ad into something he was able to\u00a0kick against. Maybe that\u2019s the way we should be reflecting as we look towards the\u00a0upcoming season in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Seger is another musician who will have winced when the referee picked up\u00a0that flag in the fourth quarter. But the man who famously gave the world a song with the\u00a0title <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.azlyrics.com\/lyrics\/bobseger\/beautifulloser.html\" target=\"_blank\">Beautiful Loser <\/a><\/em>and the lyric \u2018you can try, you can try but you can\u2019t have it all\u2019 might\u00a0be expected to veer towards a more philosophical view of the way the Lions\u2019 dreams were\u00a0taken away from them. If you had to pick anyone to put into words the bitter sweet\u00a0memory of that night of soaring hopes and shattered dreams, Bob Seger wouldn\u2019t be a\u00a0bad bet.<\/p>\n<p>For a more cold hearted, less sentimental way to put the whole debacle to bed we might\u00a0be better off following the lead of poker star Ryan Riess (a graduate of Michigan State)\u00a0who won the WSOP Main Event while wearing a Lion&#8217;s jersey bearing Calvin Johnson\u2019s\u00a0number 81. It was a success worth a cool $8.4 million and catapulted the 23 year old to\u00a0superstar status. It was an event that didn\u2019t go unnoticed by the Lions as Johnson himself\u00a0acknowledges in this clip:<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/wlasWq_jriU<\/p>\n<p>Riess is a Texas hold \u2018em specialist, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fulltilt.com\/poker\/games\/texas-holdem\" target=\"_blank\">a game that requires a keen reading of the game<\/a>\u00a0and sound judgement in the heat of the moment. It\u2019s just the sort of level headed\u00a0approach that Lions fans will lament as having been missing from the officials on January\u00a05. But for all the misty eyed sentiment about what might have been, it is that hustlers\u2019 cold\u00a0eyed pragmatism that must set the tone in the months ahead.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/7DUnTGwi2cQ<\/p>\n<p>As far as the fans are concerned we can only take a deep breath and go again. Hopefully at least Riess will be there to cheer them on. Despite a busy schedule that took him around the\u00a0globe, Riess had a 4-0\u00a0winning season as a spectator at Ford Field last season.\u00a0Last season the Lions\u2019 success saw the Lions become an unfamiliar hot ticket. As a mark\u00a0of that status they had the likes of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rundmc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Run DMC<\/a>,\u00a0Kid Rock (a Detroit native) and Rev Run\u00a0Simmons visiting the locker room. The pair even laid down a little off the cuff rap for the\u00a0players.
