Owner Dean Spanos has been encouraging the personnel department to prepare for Rivers&#8217; departure, even though the 35-year-old hasn&#8217;t mentioned retirement, reports Cole.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chargers are serious about drafting a QB to eventually replace Philip Rivers <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/By3XDxnCvK\">pic.twitter.com\/By3XDxnCvK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; B\/R Gridiron (@brgridiron) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brgridiron\/status\/849003574231273472?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 3, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Rivers is under contract with the Chargers through the 2019 season. He has thrown for at least 4,000 yards in eight of the last nine seasons and shows no signs of slowing, but it makes sense for the team to start thinking ahead about the quarterback position.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s class of quarterback prospects includes several players with a lot of upside.
