The help has arrived in the personage of former Memphis Grizzlie Guard Tony Allen who signs a 1 yr $2.3 mil deal with New Orleans <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/20673988\/tony-allen-agrees-one-year-23-million-deal-new-orleans-pelicans\">according to ESPN<\/a><\/em>. The 13 year defensive all-star who was given the name &#8220;The Grind Father&#8221; is bringing that tough mindset to the Pells.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allen who is 35 was drafted by the Boston Celtics 25th in the 1st round out of Oklahoma St in 2004. He played for Boston from 2004-2010 then moved on to Memphis from 2010-2017 with career averages of 8.2 PPG 47.5 FG 3.6 REBs 28% 3-FG in 798 games. In the 2016-2017 season Tony Allen averaged 9.1 PPG &amp; 5.5 Rebs in 71 games for Memphis.<\/p>\n<p>The question of course is where will Allen play? We of course realize it won&#8217;t be at off guard where Jrue Holiday resides but at small forward in the starting line-up. Tony Allen is 6-4 215 lbs more suited for off guard but is strong enough to play forward much like Detroit Piston off-guard Avery Bradley.<\/p>\n<p>The signing empowers the Pelicans defensive prowess &amp; perhaps gives the team a new defensive identity.
