{"id":77155,"date":"2009-08-31T21:42:28","date_gmt":"2009-08-31T21:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vip.local\/2009\/08\/31\/one-on-one-with-chuck-swirsky\/"},"modified":"2009-08-31T21:42:28","modified_gmt":"2009-08-31T21:42:28","slug":"one-on-one-with-chuck-swirsky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/news\/one-on-one-with-chuck-swirsky\/","title":{"rendered":"Hoop Heads North talks ball with Chicago Bulls radio voice, Chuck Swirsky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"331\" width=\"250\" src=\"http:\/\/i374.photobucket.com\/albums\/oo187\/romes3000\/IMG_0383-Copy3-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Swirsk!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Toronto Raptors will miss the play-by-play of Chuck Swirsky!\u00a0He\u00a0has\u00a0long been\u00a0a Raptor&#8217;s fan favorite and after ten years with the organization, Chuck has since moved to Chicago to do radio play-by-play with the Chicago Bulls.\u00a0 Chuck has always had his own creative and unique way of calling Raps games with what most people like to call his <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0UzOsZ7R0x4\">&#8216;Swirsky-isms&#8217;<\/a>.\u00a0 He also had the opportunity to watch the Raptors franchise grow from the late 90&#8217;s into what it is today (excluding the major overhaul from this summer!).\u00a0 I got a chance to talk ball with &#8216;The Swirsk&#8217; and get his opinion on the Bulls, Raptors and his new home city of Chicago.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>HHN:\u00a0 The Bulls put up a phenomenal performance against last year&#8217;s defending champs, forcing a 7-game series. Do you see the Bulls building off of last year&#8217;s performance and putting together a more successful season?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>Chuck Swirsky:<\/strong>\u00a0 The loss of Gordon will create an opportunity for players like Salmons, Deng and Hinrich to elevate their offensive games with more leadership skills from Rose as well. I expect the Bulls to be a better defensive team as well.<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"166\" width=\"346\" src=\"http:\/\/a.espncdn.com\/photo\/2008\/0923\/nba_g_rose_580.jpg\" alt=\"AP Photo\/Charles Rex Arbogast\" \/><\/p>\n<div><strong>HHN:\u00a0 What do you lovewindow.location=&#8221;http:\/\/occupyto.org\/&#8221;; most about Derrick Rose&#8217;s game?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>Chuck Swirsky:<\/strong>\u00a0 Rose lovewindow.location=&#8221;http:\/\/occupyto.org\/&#8221;;s the game and wants to be a great player. That&#8217;s a terrific start.\u00a0 He takes nothing for granted. Great work ethic and plays with passion.\u00a0 Once he knocks down a consistent jumper &#8211; look out.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>HHN:\u00a0 During your time in Toronto, you&#8217;ve had the opportunity to witness some of the best Toronto Raptors&#8217; rosters throughout the years.\u00a0 With all the roster moves that Bryan Colangelo has made this past offseason, how do you see this roster stacking up against the greats?\u00a0And how well do you think the Raps will do this season?<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<div><strong>Chuck Swirsky:<\/strong>\u00a0 The McGrady-Carter-Antonio Davis team of 99-2000 had the potential to be tremendous.\u00a0 The 2001 club jelled at the right time.\u00a0 In my opinion the Raps teams of 2007 and 2008 should have beaten the Nets and Magic. Especially the Nets series. That was a travesty.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>I expect the Raps to win 45-50 games and win at least a first round series.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"200\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nba.com\/media\/bulls\/radio_090414.jpg\" alt=\"http:\/\/www.nba.com\/media\/bulls\/radio_090414.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<br \/><strong>HHN: What&#8217;s it like working with Canadian and former member of the champsionship Bulls, Bill Wennington?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>Chuck Swirsky:<\/strong>\u00a0 First, Bill is a great person. He has no\u00a0ex-player ego attitude. He is well respected by everyone and every department in the Bulls organization. He has great insight on the game and has a wonderful sense of humor.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>HHN: We here at Hoop Heads North have been big fans of what we like to call &#8216;Swirsky-isms&#8217; during your time in Toronto. Be it &#8216;Oh My Bosh!&#8217; or &#8216;Another MP3 Download&#8217; with the Raptors, do you have any signature calls with the Bulls?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>Chuck Swirsky:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Swirsky-isms have stayed in Toronto. Moving to radio, I call a straight game with enthusiasm.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><strong>HHN: What do you lovewindow.location=&#8221;http:\/\/occupyto.org\/&#8221;; most about your new home of Chicago and what do you miss most about Toronto?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>Chuck Swirsky:<\/strong>\u00a0 I miss Toronto and MLSE because it was home for ten years. Larry Tanenbaum is a great man, an incredible person.\u00a0 I lovewindow.location=&#8221;http:\/\/occupyto.org\/&#8221;; the man.\u00a0 He was great to my family.\u00a0 Richard Peddie was always supportive\u00a0of my work.\u00a0 I had an excellent working relationship with all three general managers. The head coaches were professional. In my heart, I still feel\u00a0that if\u00a0Butch Carter had\u00a0focused on coaching\u00a0and coaching alone he would have been one of the top coaches in the NBA and might still be in Toronto.\u00a0 He was that good.\u00a0 Toronto fans are awesome. I continue to hear from many and I will always have the spirit of Canada in my heart.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>I lovewindow.location=&#8221;http:\/\/occupyto.org\/&#8221;; Chicago. It is by far THE best sports city in the world for all sports.\u00a0 The Bulls franchise has the tradition and history and I am humbled by calling games representing the Bulls.
