{"id":79439,"date":"2012-01-07T16:25:55","date_gmt":"2012-01-07T16:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vip.local\/2012\/01\/07\/book-review-the-whore-of-akron\/"},"modified":"2012-01-07T16:25:55","modified_gmt":"2012-01-07T16:25:55","slug":"book-review-the-whore-of-akron","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/news\/book-review-the-whore-of-akron\/","title":{"rendered":"Book Review: The Whore of Akron"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The title of author Scott Raab&#8217;s first book, <em>The Whore of Akron: One Man&#8217;s Search For The Soul of LeBron James,<\/em>pretty much gives away Raab&#8217;s feelings about the self-coronated &#8220;King&#8221;.&nbsp; It also helps explain why, while researching for the book,&nbsp;Raab found his&nbsp;game credentials taken away by the Heat and the NBA.&nbsp; But the book is so much more than just 320 pages of &#8220;Gonzo Journalist&#8221; Raab throwing creative and crude insults at LeBron James (although there is plenty of that).&nbsp; This book is about life, the human condition,&nbsp;loyalty, and most importantly, the&nbsp;true meaning of being a sports fan.<\/p>\n<p>While Raab (who&nbsp;while writing the book balloons up to 380 pounds and is called &#8216;Santa Claus&#8217; by Shaq due to his long&nbsp;white hair and beard)&nbsp;now lives in New Jersey, he was born and raised in Cleveland and is probably the biggest, truest Cleveland sports fan you can find roaming the face of the&nbsp;Earth.&nbsp; Which also&nbsp;means he knows the true meaning of suffering &#8211; decades and decades of suffering as a fan of&nbsp;the teams hailing from the &#8220;Mistake By The Lake&#8221;.&nbsp; Decades&nbsp;and decades of heartbreak.&nbsp;&nbsp;Decades and&nbsp;decades of humiliation.&nbsp;&nbsp;But none of it compared to the heartbreak, humiliation and betrayal felt by true Cleveland fans&nbsp;when James made his &#8220;Decision&#8221;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wonder why there was so much backlash against LeBron after he chose to take his talents to South Beach?&nbsp; Read this book.&nbsp; Consider yourself a fan of LeBron James?&nbsp; Read this book and see if you still are.&nbsp; Wonder why sports matter?&nbsp; Read this book and you&#8217;ll see why.<\/p>\n<p>Grab a copy here:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The title of author Scott Raab&#8217;s first book, The Whore of Akron: One Man&#8217;s Search For The Soul of LeBron&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[547148935],"tags":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v23.2 (Yoast SEO v23.2) -
