{"id":824289,"date":"2011-11-21T06:00:38","date_gmt":"2011-11-21T14:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cowbellkingdom.com\/?p=6922"},"modified":"2011-11-21T06:00:38","modified_gmt":"2011-11-21T14:00:38","slug":"goon-squad-classic-wrap-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/news\/goon-squad-classic-wrap-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Goon Squad Classic Wrap-Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6923\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6923\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cowbellkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/gsc_group_photo.jpg\"><img alt=\"Goon Squad Classic Wrap-Up\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6923 \" title=\"gsc_group_photo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cowbellkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/gsc_group_photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6923\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: James Ham<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t NBA caliber.\u00a0 But host Dont\u00e9 Greene and company put on a show that entertained the fans in attendance at the Goon Squad Classic.\u00a0 His Black Team toppled the Purple Team, 167-164 in overtime at the UC Davis Pavilion.\u00a0 Greene&#8217;s team featured\u00a0 <strong>Jimmer Fredette<\/strong>, <strong>Jason Thompson<\/strong> and <strong>Spencer Hawes<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Tyreke Evans<\/strong>, <strong>DeMarcus Cousins<\/strong>, Isaiah Thomas, <strong>Hassan Whiteside<\/strong> and <strong>Matt Barnes<\/strong> played together on the Purple Team.<\/p>\n<p>James Ham will have his own take on the game in a post later today.\u00a0 For now, I&#8217;ll share a few notes about Sunday night&#8217;s charity exhibition.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Several players who were slated to play didn&#8217;t show.\u00a0 Not surprising considering that&#8217;s been a common theme in many of these lockout contests.\u00a0 After the game, Dont\u00e9 explained to me why some of guys didn&#8217;t make it.\u00a0 &#8220;<strong>Jonny (Flynn)<\/strong> decided to participate in the game in Houston &#8211; John Lucas&#8217; game.\u00a0 <strong>Kevin Martin<\/strong>, I think went on an overseas tour.\u00a0 And <strong>Kevin Durant<\/strong> had a family emergency he had to take care of, so it was last minute and he couldn&#8217;t come out.&#8221;\u00a0 Dont\u00e9 added that he&#8217;s hoping to get those guys for perhaps another exhibition game in the future and appreciated the ones who did come out.<\/li>\n<li><strong>John Wall<\/strong> made an appearance, but didn&#8217;t play.\u00a0 I had overheard some chatter about his groin giving him some issues, forcing him to sit out the contest.\u00a0 Dont\u00e9 told me that that Wall was indeed injured because he had been playing overseas and that the Washington Wizards guard wanted to &#8220;rest his body&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Questions arose on Friday about Evans&#8217; weight when <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/DraftExpress\/status\/137701486175059968\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan Givony of Draft Express<\/a> tweeted that Evans appeared to be at least 20 pounds bigger.\u00a0 From what I saw, he looked bulkier, heavier with less defined muscle tone.\u00a0 But overweight?\u00a0 I can&#8217;t say exactly.\u00a0 We&#8217;d need a check of his body fat to make a fair assessment.<\/li>\n<li>Tyreke&#8217;s jumper had no issues though. \u00a0In fact, he and Fredette traded back-to-back 40-foot threes during an exciting in-game exchange.<\/li>\n<li>The most impressive player physically was Hassan Whiteside.\u00a0 He&#8217;s clearly added upper-body muscle this offseason.\u00a0 He told me before the game that he&#8217;s actually been in Sacramento during most of the lockout.\u00a0 He displayed extraordinary athleticism when he finished a slam by sticking his arm into the basket.\u00a0 It was reminiscent of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fqfMmP9NPvg\" target=\"_blank\">Vince Carter&#8217;s final jam from the 2000 NBA Dunk Contest<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Best part of the halftime show was when a little rookie hazing took place and\u00a0Fredette and Thomas were forced into an entertaining dance-off.\u00a0 Watch below to see who won.
