by Jonathan Santiago & James Ham

Since new ownership took over in June, change has swept the Sacramento Kings. But one of the few things that has stayed the same is the presence of a holdover from Geoff Petrie‘s front office. Shareef Abdur-Rahim is entering his ninth season with the franchise and he joined us on this week’s podcast to chat about a number of topics including adjusting to the new regime.

In the second half of the show, a discussion of a variety of topics including Chris Hansen’s involvement with the anti-arena push in Sacramento, Jimmer Fredette’s future and Michael Malone’s growing coaching staff.

Abdur-Rahim previously held the title of assistant general manager in Petrie’s front office. With Pete D’Alessandro, he is now working as the Kings director of player personnel. What’s the difference between the two?

Well I think that maybe one title is a little bit more distinguished than the other. But honestly, I’m doing a lot of the same things – in some instances more. For instance, we have taken over the basketball operations of the Reno Bighorns, so I’m playing a role in that and helping us get that affiliation going. So it’s a difference in title and some in responsibility, but there’s a lot of overlap in the job.

Can’t see the audio player? Listen here.

Music Credit: Ronald Jenkees – Guitar Sound

Excerpt
