{"id":825982,"date":"2014-02-05T09:00:28","date_gmt":"2014-02-05T17:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cowbellkingdom.com\/?p=26854"},"modified":"2014-02-05T09:00:28","modified_gmt":"2014-02-05T17:00:28","slug":"raptors-greivis-vasquez-john-salmons-speak-on-their-return-to-sacramento","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/news\/raptors-greivis-vasquez-john-salmons-speak-on-their-return-to-sacramento\/","title":{"rendered":"Raptors&#8217; Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons speak on their return to Sacramento"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cowbellkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/vasquez_salmons.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-26857\" alt=\"Greivis Vasquez and John Salmons, split (Photos by Tobin Halsey and Jonathan Santiago)\" src=\"http:\/\/cowbellkingdom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/vasquez_salmons.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nA few familiar faces took to their old stomping grounds at the Sacramento Kings&#8217; practice facility yesterday. \u00a0Greivis Vasquez, Patrick Patterson, John Salmons and Chuck Hayes practiced with their new team, the Toronto Raptors, ahead of tonight&#8217;s matchup against their old team. \u00a0Salmons and Vasquez addressed the media and spoke a little bit about what it&#8217;s like to be back in Sacramento for the first time since being traded to the Raptors almost two months ago.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vasquez was only a member of the Kings for a few months before he was dealt to Toronto in December. \u00a0But was it surreal for him to be back practicing in the headquarters of his old team? \u00a0&#8220;It\u2019s a little weird because I was here early, even before training camp,&#8221; Vasquez said. \u00a0&#8220;I had a good run here (even though) I was coming off injury. \u00a0But management was good to me, the coaching staff, my ex-teammates and you\u2019re always gonna be thankful for that. \u00a0But I\u2019m in a different situation right now and I\u2019m pretty happy with where I\u2019m at. \u00a0And I think winning really makes everything so much better. \u00a0I&#8217;d rather be in a winning program right now than going through a tough time.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Raptors are 20-10 since acquiring Vasquez, Patterson, Hayes and Salmons while the Kings have finally found an answer to their gaping hole at small forward in\u00a0Rudy Gay. \u00a0Vasquez thinks the trade was good for both teams. \u00a0&#8220;I think Rudy is gonna be a great player for them in the long term,&#8221; Vasquez said. &#8220;Hopefully they keep him. \u00a0Quincy (Acy) is an energy guy. \u00a0I think he can play and he\u2019s getting minutes. \u00a0(Aaron) Gray is a big-time center, he can really help DeMarcus (Cousins) a little bit, get him some rest. \u00a0And so far so good for both teams. \u00a0It\u2019s really helping us be a better team and we have a really good solid bench and they have a great star in Rudy Gay.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Though he&#8217;s no longer part of the franchise, Vasquez believes the Kings are headed in the right direction. \u00a0He thinks highly of Kings head coach Michael Malone and believes he&#8217;s the right guy to turn around a franchise mired in a seven-going-on-eight-year playoff drought. \u00a0&#8220;I\u2019ll tell you this man,&#8221; Vasquez said. \u00a0&#8220;I think Sacramento is headed the right way. \u00a0Having a coach like coach Malone, I have plenty confidence that he\u2019ll turn this program around.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Salmons on being back in Sacramento: &#8220;Yeah, I mean it\u2019s a little weird. \u00a0How long has it been? \u00a0A little over a month? \u00a0(Reporters tell him two months.) \u00a0Feels like a long time ago, feels like a while ago since I was playing here. \u00a0(It&#8217;s) just part of it, man. \u00a0I just take it in stride.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Salmons has been dealt before, including a previous time by the Kings in 2009. \u00a0However, this time he said he had &#8220;strong mixed feelings&#8221; about being shipped out of Sacramento. \u00a0He holds no grudges towards the Kings for dealing him this time around, but this latest deal was a little tougher to swallow. \u00a0&#8220;I took it less personal the previous time I got traded,&#8221; Salmons said. \u00a0&#8220;For whatever reason, this was a little bit more &#8211; I don\u2019t know. I\u2019m not gonna say that I was just totally mad or mad with the organization or anything like that. \u00a0It was just &#8211; I don\u2019t know, I don\u2019t know &#8211; it was a little tougher this time.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The 34-year-old veteran admits that he didn&#8217;t know what to expect when he was traded from the Raptors. \u00a0He knew very little about the organization and the only player he was familiar with at the time was veteran <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lowryky01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-cowbellkingdom.com\" target=\"_blank\">Kyle Lowry<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0Salmons also added that he wasn&#8217;t sure if he would play at all, but noted that he, Patterson, Vasquez and Hayes all wanted to try their best to fit in and not disrupt the Raptors&#8217;
