{"id":841454,"date":"2018-09-06T07:09:36","date_gmt":"2018-09-06T11:09:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/?p=841454"},"modified":"2018-09-06T07:09:36","modified_gmt":"2018-09-06T11:09:36","slug":"nassau-county-agency-approves-tax-breaks-for-isles-plan-to-upgrade-nassau-coliseum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/news\/nassau-county-agency-approves-tax-breaks-for-isles-plan-to-upgrade-nassau-coliseum\/","title":{"rendered":"Nassau County agency approves tax breaks for Isles plan to upgrade Nassau Coliseum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of Nassau County&#8217;s Industrial Development Agency greenlit tax breaks for the Islanders $10 million plan to renovated the Nassau Coliseum for the upcoming season, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsday.com\/business\/nassau-coliseum-ida-tax-breaks-1.20847544\">Newsday reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In an application submitted by BSE Global, on behalf of the Islanders, the team was seeking a $400,000 to $450,000 sales tax break as they update the venue to NHL standards. The Islanders are updating the already renovated Nassau Coliseum in preparation for a partial return to their former home while they construct a new arena at Belmont Park in Elmont.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to see the Islanders back, and if we can assist in a small way, why not,&#8221; IDA chairman Richard Kessel said. He added that the sales tax break won&#8217;t have any major impact on county taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>The total cost to update Nassau Coliseum to NHL standards is expected to cost $9.9 million. New York state will contribute $6 million while the Islanders will cover the difference.<\/p>\n<p>The Islanders are scheduled to play 20 home games at Nassau Coliseum this year, which was increased from the 12 they had originally planned to play there this season. <a href=\"https:\/\/thesportsdaily.com\/2018\/06\/21\/islanders-to-play-additional-eight-games-at-nassau-coliseum-this-season\/\">Governor Andrew Cuomo announced in June<\/a> that the Islanders would play an additional eight games in Uniondale due to\u00a0a high demand for the previously scheduled games.<\/p>\n<p>The team&#8217;s first regular season game back on Long Island will take place on December 1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets and they&#8217;re scheduled to play a preseason game at Nassau Coliseum next Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Members of Nassau County&#8217;s Industrial Development Agency greenlit tax breaks for the Islanders $10 million plan to renovated the Nassau&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":704135,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[703639565,703638946,1],"tags":[851850,648147140,191307],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v22.2 (Yoast SEO v22.2) -
