The event took place on Sunday, August 11 in Toronto, Canada. It was the 31st edition of the yearly show, which WWE hypes as &#8220;The Biggest Party of the Summer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s event was no different, as seven championships were on the line and two WWE Hall of Famers were in action. A total of 12 matches were on the card, with three happening on the pre-show. Early reaction on social media has been overwhelmingly positive, as fans all over the world are still talking about what went down in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Edge returns and spears Elias: SummerSlam Kickoff 2019 (WWE Network Exclusive)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/A9Ib_5nFtIQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Pre-Show<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Drew Gulak retained the WWE Cruiserweight\u00a0Championship vs. Oney Lorcan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddy Murphy won by DQ vs. Apollo Crews due to outside\u00a0interference from Rowan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross retained the WWE Women&#8217;s Tag Team Championships vs. The IIconics<\/strong><\/p>\n[lawrence-related id=931851]\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Main Card<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Becky Lynch retained the Raw Women&#8217;s Championship vs. Natalya in a\u00a0Submission Match<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Goldberg defeated Dolph Ziggler<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>AJ Styles retained the WWE United States Championship vs. Ricochet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bayley retained the SmackDown\u00a0Women&#8217;s Championship vs. Ember Moon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Dolph Ziggler\u2019s quick superkicks can\u2019t stop Goldberg: SummerSlam 2019 (WWE Network Exclusive)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vEgThDXJ45U?start=1&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kevin Owens defeated Shane McMahon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlotte Flair defeated Trish Stratus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kofi Kingston retained the WWE\u00a0<\/strong><b>Championship vs. Randy Orton as the result of a double count-out<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The Fiend&#8221; Bray Wyatt defeated Finn B\u00e1lor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Seth Rollins defeated Brock Lesnar to become the new WWE Universal champion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some highlights of the night include a surprise appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Edge, who speared Elias during the pre-show. Another Hall of Famer, The Nature Boy Ric Flair, appeared in a backstage segment and the same was true of Bret &#8220;The Hitman&#8221; Hart.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Seth Rollins counters Brock Lesnar and unleashes on The Beast: SummerSlam 2019\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xUB9foqb9MU?start=17&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Goldberg received a great ovation from the Toronto crowd, as did hometown heroes Trish Stratus and Kevin Owens. Natalya, who is also Canadian, competed for her pop against Becky Lynch, who was extremely over with the Toronto audience.<\/p>\n<p>Many fans felt that Bray Wyatt stole the show as &#8220;The Fiend&#8221; against Finn B\u00e1lor. Others believed that the same was true of AJ Styles and Ricochet, who may have had the best match of the night.
