On August 10, 1989, Dave Dravecky came back from cancer to re-join the San Francisco Giants.<\/p>\n

Five days later\u2026it was all over.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the sixth inning. I\u2019ll never forget Terry Kennedy giving me the sign,\u201d Dravecky told The Hall of Very Good Podcast<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cI let go of that pitch\u2026and my arm exploded in my left ear. It was the most horrific sound. From there, I really don\u2019t remember much.\u201d<\/p>\n

The arm break not only ended Dravecky\u2019s season, it would lead to him retiring as well after doctors discovered his cancer had returned. In 1991, the pitcher\u2019s left arm and shoulder were amputated.<\/p>\n
