The NY Giants have an opportunity to change their franchise. After taking Saquon Barkley at 1.02 this evening, they have an opportunity to leverage a star with a nasty road grader that will redefine the OL. His name is Will Hernandez. We haven’t seen talent and need crystallize together like this in a long time. Only one pick (CLE) separates the Giants from this player.
For certainty I would pay a R6 pick for the rights to 2.33. Hernandez makes my draft. He solidifies my OL. He changes the attitude and mindset of the unit. He leverages all the toys.
People don’t like it when I call OBJ a toy. Shepard toy. Engram toy. Barkley toy. These are skill positions that sell tickets. But the OL (and DL) make it happen. Barkley doesn’t gain any yardage w/o an Offensive Line. Eli isn’t upright without an Offensive Line. And OBJ, Shepard and Engram can’t catch passes without an Offensive Line. GET HERNANDEZ.
There are a few other lineman who are on Wonder’s Top 50 Board that we like:
11. G Hernandez
22. C Daniels
28. T Williams
While Daniels and Williams would be good, Hernandez would be a lot better. A repeat of the evaluation tells it all:
“Just a f’g beast. Comparison: Richie Incognito + Mike Iupati. Nasty. Attitude. Will change your OL. When he gets his hands on you, you are done. 10 years plug and play. If you can get a bookend Tackle, your OL will become dominant.”
Make it happen Gettleman. Get the Hog Mollie. Put Barkley on afterburners. Extend Eli’s career. Rebuild, rejuvenate and recharge the OL. That’s architecture. Don’t underestimate the power of a dominant Guard. The Giants haven’t had any identity/dominance on Offense since Chris Snee crumbled. It’s time to hit big on Offensive Line so that the Giants can leverage the toys.
We cannot make this any clearer. The Giants just drafted a Ferrari. But he’s on a dirt road. The Ferrari needs a road grader so that it can run. Ferrari meet asphalt. It’s as plain as the nose on your face. The Giants desperately needed OL help BEFORE BARKLEY. Give the Ferrari asphalt and let it run wild.
