Around the NFL, post-Super Bowl version.
1) I agree with Weinstein (aka Bluenatic) nearly 100% of the time, and wish he would post more often. I have said that before and am happy to say it again here so as not to confuse the message. In his most recent post on the Jets, however, I respectfully disagree on the general tone. No, you won’t see me defending the NY Jets for their pompous and self-centered garbage, or for the behavior of class acts like Braylon Edwards et al. But the thing I like love about this Jets team is that they are fighting for a title. I know Rex should have his mouth wired shut a lot of the time, but when he lost in the AFC Championship, he ripped his headset off in disgust. At himself. That is what I want to see. I want to see a head coach with ONE goal- winning a title. And you can argue that he was just as successful as Tom Coughlin in getting to that goal this past season, since 31 teams lose. But at least this guy Rex goes down with a fight. Terd Coughlin goes down with loser assistants, doesn’t cut the cord on those loser assistants until he has to, applauds his own mediocrity and supplies a “kiss my a**” for his detractors. Count me as one of those detractors.
2) Perry Fewell lost out on the Titans head coaching job. Without any disrespect to Fewell, did you realize that only ONE of Coughlin’s coordinators in his 7 seasons here in NY have gotten a head coaching job?
3) The Super Bowl seat debacle was pretty bad. And remember that the Super Bowl is an NFL event, NOT an event run by any of the 32 teams. My advice is this- (a) beware of attending the Super Bowl, as it is an overrated. (b) beware of these new Stadiums, as many of the seats frankly s*ck. (c) Your HD TV living room is a great bargain.
4) If I have a little Rodgers-envy, my apologies. Is it me, or does it seem as if he is throwing the ball precisely where it needs to be placed, that he is almost always putting his receivers in a position to get yards after the catch???! The difference between a good and a great QB is YAC, because you allow your WRs to use the open field. What we miss in Burress is a guy who can time the (arrival of the) ball so that he is getting it in stride. Young Hakeem Nicks is gifted in that art. We hope for the Giants’ sake that Nicks can just stay healthy- if he does, he’ll make Manning look good. The difference for the Packers is that Rodgers is the one making everyone else look good.
5) A business colleague of mine was at the Super Bowl. He did not discuss the game. Instead, the first words out of his mouth were about the $10 beers.
6) You think getting a seat to a game is particularly hard? There are plenty of seats for resale by PSL owners. And speaking of resale, now that the first year has expired, Giants PSL owners can sell their license in the open market. Happy hunting.
