The Giants have the opportunity to, in essence, eliminate the Eagles from playoff consideration for 2011. The Eagles will likely be without Vick, Maclin, and definitely DRC. (Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie)
A defining game for a team to put away it’s biggest nemesis. The dream team was, and has been, built on speed. Whether it’s Vick, McCoy, Jackson and even the speed rusher Trent Cole, the Giants need to play with physicality. Celek and McCoy are the keys for the Eagle’s offense. Hopefully Fewell can manage his rookie linebackers to contain this duo like the Cardinals’ young LBs last week. A lot of praise for Wonder’s top rated LB in the 2010 draft in Washington with his performance last week against the Eagles.
Elite in one category. We all knew Eli was money when it counts but this statistic truly confirms it: Giants quarterback Eli Manning has four touchdown passes so far this season in the final two minutes of either the first or second half of a game. ESPN Stats & Information says that’s tied with New England’s Tom Brady for the most such touchdown passes in this league this season, and that since the start of 2008, no quarterback in the league has more touchdown passes in the final two minutes of halves than Manning, who has 20. That puts him ahead of his big brother, Peyton Manning, who has 19 — two ahead of the Saints’ Drew Brees and four ahead of Romo and the Bears’ Jay Cutler. Finally, we discussed the statistics this past week of the comparison of press and man versus zone and off coverage. Greg Garber of ESPN discusses the difficulty of playing in the secondary in today’s NFL. The best cornerback “biggest attribute for why Revis is best d(efensive) player in League…..his press technique is probably the best in football. He waits for the receiver to do his thing, a lot of motion and making all the jukes and then he says, ‘OK, I got you,'” Thurman his defensive back coach for the Jets said. “He’s got incredibly strong arms, wrists and forearms. He consistently gets two hands on the wide receiver … most get one. With two hands, he can jam or reroute most guys.” In addition Garber addressed today’s TEs and cover 2: Hernandez and Gronkowski, who burned the Jets for two touchdowns in Week 10, run like wide receivers. Like Jimmy Graham in New Orleans and Green Bay’s Jermichael Finley, they are matchup nightmares. The old Cover 2 defense, featuring two deep safeties, has been getting strafed by these hybrid tight ends.
The Giants need to play 60 minutes of football.
