I thought McAdoo’s playcalling at 1st and Goal at the 4 after the great Beckham reception was bad. 3 consecutive fades? That’s the way the cookie crumbles.
Do we really need to recap this game? Is there anything about the Giants in 2014 than hasn’t already been said? Is there any kind of incremental enlightenment the Giants after a 4 game losing streak and (now) after a 5 game losing streak? The answer is no. So given that it is pretty much a foregone conclusion that the 2014 season is over, let’s look at who is on the roster that is part of a realistic chance at another Super Bowl title down the road.
Josh Brown
Steve Weatherford
Eli Manning
Odell Beckham
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Andre Williams
Zak DeOssie
Devon Kennard
Will Beatty
Justin Pugh
Weston Richburg
Larry Donnell
Johnathan Hankins
Damontre Moore
From IR
Prince Amukamara
Victor Cruz
Geoff Schwartz
What is the Giants identity? 4 OLmen are listed above, but none will instill fear in an opposing Defensive Coordinator. So whoever is the General Manager needs to keep drafting OL high to support Eli and the skill players. There are some good players that are not included on the list due to age. Jennings and Rolle are good players, but realistically they will not be there when the Giants are resurrected.
Eli’s best years are being squandered. He had a stinker today, with 5 picks, but more so than ever it needs to be understood in the context of what surrounds him. Charles Brown was the definition of swiss cheese. Eli got pummeled back there. If Schwartz were on the roster, at least Brown would not be playing in that spot. And if the Giants can draft some serious players at OL, they may be able to dominate the way Snee did last decade. Right now, no one on the OL can dominate.
We will finish this with some optimism, the same way we finished last week’s putrid recap… Odell Beckham Jr. is going to be a rock star WR. He almost singlehandedly willed a victory for his team. This team with a dominating OL, a veteran QB, a competent TE, Victor Cruz and OBJ?… it is not that hard to see a brighter future down the road than the 3-7 darkness we have at the moment. Change is likely coming. Mara/Tisch will be foolish to think that potential wins vs JAX TENN & WAS will correct what ails this organization.
