2015 NFL Draft Part 5: LB, QB, RB, TE

Linebacker

Not too many here. Some were in Part 4 under DE.  We are not rating 200 players this year like we did from 2010-2012. We are only rating ~45-50 players to cover the first couple of Rounds of the Giants.  We will have supplemental information on later round players as that shapes up.

Vic Beasley (3) Bulked up a lot and got really fast. Too fast? Has huge potential but on tape he got pushed around. Yet he does 35 benchpresses?  Too many questions. Confused. So I will pass. Don’t gamble at 9. Great speed and great burst. How did he bulk up so quickly? When I can’t answer the questions, I pass unless the pick becomes value.

Shane Ray (3) Doesn’t fit mold for Giants. Would have been a VG Defensive End in 1960’s or 1970’s.  Too small for DE now. 3-4 hybrid OLB in NFL now. 4-3 OLB? Doesn’t have that experience. So no fit for Gmen.  Doesn’t have that strength to take on OTs. Does have elite speed. Explodes off line. Aspire to be a poor man’s Clay Matthews.  Problem is that Ray has not played LBer. Must be used correctly in the right scheme.

Bernardrick McKinney – has most potential of the ILBers, Round 2.

Quarterback

Jameis Winston (3) Best QB in the draft, take #1, but … not a given in the NFL.  Delivery and footwork is a little off. Reminds me of a rich man’s Vince Young.  I have reservations. He’s a top 5 guy because he is a QB, but anything can happen to him as a pro, good and bad.

Marcus Mariota (2) Like him more than most. Can learn. Upside. Can be poor man’s Aaron Rodgers.  Worst he will be is a solid Pro.

Running Back

Todd Gurley (?.. 1 or out of the league medically) Strictly medical. If he is okay, he’s the only RB worth a R1 grade. You get only one bite of the apple with an ACL. But so far and away the best RB.  Perfect for NE, if ok physically.  Scary good. Gamechanging ability. Feast or famine. No in between.  Giants would be within their rights to take him at 9. [APF- no thanks]

Tight End

No Tight Ends in the Top 30/First Round talent.
