The New York Giants are playing an undefeated New England Patriots team this weekend—tell us if you’ve heard that before.
The two teams have had a rich recent history over the last decade. Their most recent meeting came February 5th, 2012 in Super Bowl XLVI as the Giants added a Lombardi Trophy to the franchise’s career accomplishments. The Giants’ winning streak over the Pats is at three games, winning a regular season contest on November 6th, 2011 and another Super Bowl on February 3rd, 2008, when New England entered the game with an 18-0 record.
This time around, the Patriots are again undefeated, and all the old feelings from previous games are coming back into the forefront.
On the secondary ticket market, Giants tickets to this week’s game against the Patriots are more expensive than their last regular season meeting four seasons ago. According to Ticketbis, Giants vs. Patriots tickets at Gillette Stadium on November 6th, 2011 reached a peak average ticket price of $533.88 before falling to $320.96 a day before the game. It would then skyrocket, reaching its final average ticket price of $493.28 with a get-in price of $220.
Currently, this week’s game has an average ticket price of $584.20 and a get-in price of $217. However, that average will likely start to trend down as the game approaches. It is the most expensive Giants games on the secondary market this season, while other top-priced games came against the Dallas Cowboys on October 25th and a December 6th affair with the New York Jets.
The average ticket price for this Sunday has been rising since the NFL season began. On September 1st the average ticket price was $352.07, which went up to $382.07 by October 1st. On November 1st, the average ticket price was $563.51 and reached a peak of $621.29 on November 5th before slightly dipping towards the average ticket price seen today ($584.20).
The Patriots have led a scorched earth campaign so far this season, but the Giants seem to be one of the few teams that have found success against them in recent years.
