2016 NFL Draft Part 7: Eve of the Draft

Part 1: Four realistic possibilities that we prefer for the Giants in Round 1 are T Ronnie Stanley, DE DeForest Buckner, DE Shaq Lawson or CB Vernon Hargreaves.

Part 2: When you pick 10th overall, certainty should be high and risks should be low. Prospects that have had bad injuries in college like Myles Jack or Laquon Trendwell have great upside but also are at risk of having shortened careers. Thus we advocate deferring on those players at 10.

Part 3: Prospects like Leonard Floyd have great potential but also risk in their transition. A review of the 3 QBs plus another set of prominent second tier players who will be drafted in Round 1.

Part 4: Wonder’s Sleeper, QB Cardale Jones.

Part 5: More draft eval, including a review of OT, where UltimateNYG hopes that Jason Spriggs or Germain Ifedi is available in Round 2.

Part 6: Wonder’s Draft Board of the Top 50 prospects in 2016. Scary how we panned players like Dodd and Apple in Part 3, only to be forced to still slot them very high in the rankings nonetheless. It is proof that this year’s draft is very weak. Just because a player may be ranked high does not mean he projects high.

Here in Part 7, we offer some final thoughts before everything commences tomorrow. My ideal scenario is for the Giants to get one of those 4 players mentioned above (Part 1) in the first round. Get Spriggs/Ifedi in Round 2. Get Cardale Jones in Round 3.

Everyone covets. Trading down/into 2017 and out of early 2016 is great. If the Giants draft one of the players we do not prefer (Bosa, Jack, Treadwell, Floyd, Elliott, to name just 5), they all can have very good or even possibly outstanding careers. Each has risks though. If the Giants take one of them, we hope they are correct. Wouldn’t it be much better to trade down to 15 (Titans pick, rumor) and take one of those riskier players at that slot while getting paid handsomely for the 5 slots?!
